29 July 2016 Poppy 7282 Restaurants El Vergel Latin American Restaurant This family run cantina style restaurant makes me feel like I have been transported to the fresh mouthwatering street food of Cental or South America every time I visit, which I now make a point of as the food is so good. With all the food chains now swallowing up every high st, finding a gem like El Vergel which means an oasis where everything grows fresh, is like finding a needle in a haystack. This is a family run business, built on hard work and passion and when you walk into El Vergel located just south of Southwark Bridge you immediately know you are somewhere special. Firstly because it is likely to be buzzing with people and secondly because there really is nowhere quite like it in London. For anyone who spent anytime experiencing latin home cooked fayre this is where you will find the closest thing with everything made fresh,And if like me you are hankering to see something new and unique with a truly personal touch when it comes to decor then look no further. The restaurant is uncluttered but very cool and takes inspiration from the brightly coloured pots, hand woven baskets, paper lanterns authentic to a Latina cantina. The family that run El Vergel care deeply about what they do and utilise their close proximity to London markets to ensure they are always using the finest and freshest ingredients with everything on the menu made from scratch. My favourite is the veggie soft tacos but anything with El Vergel's signature salsa and guacamole all over it will not disappoint. The prices are very reasonable for central London, 2 people can eat very well for under £20.00 without alcohol.
