DON'T MISS THIS

I went to Sundance in Park City Utah last year with my family which was an amazing experience.

Now it's here in London and we have tickets for the Time is Now by William Ackroyd on Saturday 27th. Nominated for Best Short. I love short films, even had a go at making my own.

He studied at Rada where I want to go if I'm very lucky.

My folks are going to The Eagles documentary by Allison Ellwoods. Not so sure about that one. I'll give my reviews..... so stay tuned.

A ONE OFF WORK OF ART EXPERIENCE

Sometimes I feel so lucky to live in London, today was one of those super great days.

What a laugh, me and a few of my mates went to check out the Dalston House today. We thought we would have to queue, warning on the website arrive at least an hour before it closes, but we got lucky with the weather and we only had to wait about 15 minutes because it was hot.

The best things about it are; free is good, great actually. It is so incredible, what an experience I would have happily paid a couple of quid.

It's a horizontal house with a massive mirror on an angle above you that creates the illusion of you hanging off a building. Best of all you actually feel like you are which is freaky, in a really great way. I don't really get museums, I think they are boring mostly but this work of art was good fun. We could have stayed longer but felt bad when people were waiting behind to hang around too long.

If you get the chance definitely go, it's a very cool experience and perfect for anyone of any age, 4 or 5 up would love it I think.

ORIGINAL AND BRILLIANT ACTING FROM YOUNG CAST

What a film. OMG. I was blown away by this movie. Also watched it with some of my cool older relatives and they loved it too.

So not just a film for young kids. It's set on a dodgy council estate in South London, the writer obviously has had first hand experience and is about an alien invasion of the "Wyndham Tower" but don't let that put you off, even if you think you don't like Sci Fi. The message is really deep and so well done. A movie that questions our society and what happens to people who have to live in difficult places. It also shows really well that no matter, we are all the same underneath and also shows why we do the things we do, sometimes.

On the other side, the script/characters are totally believable and in places the dialogue is out of this world. Great, great movie.

In a broken city rife with injustice, ex-cop Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) seeks redemption and revenge after being double-crossed and then framed by its most powerful figure, the mayor (Russell Crowe). Billy’s relentless pursuit of justice, matched only by his streetwise toughness, makes him an unstoppable force and the mayor’s worst nightmare.

Director: Allen Hughes

Written by: Brian Tucker

Producers: Allen Hughes, Randall Emmett, George Furla, Steve Levinson, Mark Wahlberg, Teddy Schwartzman, Arnon Milchan

Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe, Catherine Zeta-Jones

www.brokencitymovie.com

NOT THE BEST I'VE SEEN FROM THIS CAST

I caught this film on DVD over the weekend and thought I would add a few lines on it as it's not bad enough to be relegated to the don't watch, BAD movie bin.

It's an American, corrupt politician, police, good guy being tempted to follow the money not his heart kind of story. It has been done loads of times and I have to say this one didn't bring anything particularly new to the party. No real stand out performances, Crowe plays the corrupt City mayor involved in some bent property deal, Mark Wahlberg an ex cop, turned private investigator gets hired by the Mayor to trail his wfe, Catherine Zeta Jones, who he suspects of having an affair, big twist without giving the game away, not really.

It all turns out surprise, it's all about winning an election campaign and the lengths people will go to to do that, not about who is sleeping with who.

I give this film 5/10. OK crime drama if you've got a couple of hours to kill. Not much else to say about it really, very average.

The film was pretty well reviewed, the best British horror is ages, said one. I didn't think so. The acting was terrible, unconvincing in my opinion. I would have just added it to bad movies to avoid but I was so shocked by how bad it was I thought I'd have a rant.

The script was threaded with inconsistancies and things that were just stupid like a Zack calling the police to report an incident with a van at the beginning of the film but doesn't tell them where he is....duh.

I watched about half way through then gave up, boring. Don't know how the script got picked up in the first place. By Film 4 standards, shockingly bad for an indy British offering in my book. It may have got better if I'd been able to stick it all the way through. Would be interested to hear from someone else who did.

Gal, Deedee, Aitch and Jackie, having left behind respective lives of ill-repute, bask in the sun of Spain and in the most essential brand of leisure. A hazy yarn of barbecues, beer and botched hunting expeditions make up their retirements, until a sudden and unforeseen disruption emerges from their past. Enter the childishly violent and hilariously edgy Don Logan. Through a series of side-splitting negotiations and irrevocable acts, retired crook Gal is forced to shake off the rust and accept one last mission, put forth by the menacing Logan, his ex-mentor. A heist of legendary proportion and personal implications, this job should make for one hell of an encore.

CLASSIC OLDIE EAST LONDON GANSTER FILM

I saw Ray Winstone in The Sweeney so when my Dad suggested watching Sexy Beast I was up for it, even though I was 5 when this film was shot.

He said it was a classic and my Mum loves him so everyone's happy.

I was not sure what to expect. Don't get me wrong my parents are cool but they are still my parents if you know where I'm coming from.

Anyway this movie is hilarious, scary dark, the acting is probably some of the best I've ever seen especially from Ben Kingsley who plays this psycho East London hard man dude, paid to bring the Winstone character out of retirement to do a job for Ian McShane's character Teddy Bass, another weird gay nutter.

The film keep me locked in from beginning to end even for such an old film, it was fresh and real.

It was a bit like the Bank Job with Jason Statham or In Bruges with Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes in feel and edge, but funnier in places for sure.

I will be watching again, much more than a one hit.

I’m in love and...... I got to see how hilarious she is in the flesh too on the comedy panel where the line up debated Where To Draw The Line In Comedy.

What an inspiration.
I LEARNED SO MUCH AND THIS FILM MADE ME FEEL

What a brilliant experience Sundance London was. Phew.

Best, the time is now, is such a fantastic and thought provoking film, it’s difficult to explain how so much could be packed into only 5 minutes.

William Oldroyd, the director is completely brilliant and Jothan Annan in the lead gives an amazing performance. The story is simple about two friends confronting their future as one is just about to get married. No surprising for me it took the prize for best short. The judges described the film as tender, visceral, raw and heart breaking. It’s a lot to pack in all in under five minutes, what makes it great, better than great. The framing is so clean and the acting incredible.

You can watch this cool short at competition.sundance-london.com/films/2013. Make sure you check it out.
