My friends always compliment me on my eyeliner and my bags. (on my shoulder not under my eyes) I collect handbags and have quite a few lovely ones in my collection. My shoes, jewellery, and handbags show my love of fashion but it is my make up I take the most time with every day and my eyeliner is a very big part of this daily ritual. All my friends experiment with their eyeliner and we are always coming up with slightly different ways to express ourselves in this regard.

I recently helped a European lady at Dubai airport. She approached me and paid me the nicest compliment, "My dear, I love how you do your eyeline, can you help me find a good product so I might do the same?"

I immediately took her to the Guerlain counter at duty free shopping and showed her Mad Eyes Intense liner, I explained my friends and I have tried every kind of eyeliner product. The cats eye eyeline is our speciality. She laughed and said I can see.

I explained the long lid which screws into the bottle containing the eyeline product is the key. You can hold it like a pencil or pen to get a steady application and no other liner has the super fine brush which allows me to build my line and elimate any mistakes in the application without having to remove and start again.

The price 204 AED. Which works out to approximately $55 US.

I would recommend the eyeliner product to anyone looking to create a perfect cats eye eyeline. The brush on the long lid is the key.

This beautiful beach club embodies all the comfort and luxury Abu Dhabi has to offer. A membership beach club also open to visitors it serves as the perfect place to meet my friends for the whole day.

I cannot describe the vista of fine white sand and blue skyline.

The beach club opens at 7.00am and closes at 6pm.

There is space for over 750 sun beds which sounds like a lot and yet it never feels crowded on people too close together.

For members they always reserve 150 spaces to ensure members get priority when it gets busy in the cooler months.

My friends have a membership so I go as a guest with them.

If you are a visitor for a sunbed, towel, umbrella and bottle of water the daily rate is 125 AED. (Converts to £26 or $35)

The price increases on Saturday and Sunday when you can expect a lot more children. The rate for children is 60 AED.

The service can be slow at the weekend and the drinks don’t always come in the depicted on the menu. My advice would be to make friends with a server when you arrive. Give them a small tip on arrival with the promise of a good tip when you leave will ensure you are looked after throughout the day.

It’s the one place the beach Pavillion, the best beach in Abu Dhabi could improve. I did see visitors to Abu Dhabi, not residents or local people, getting a little frustrated at the extended time they had to wait for drinks.

There is definitely advantage to members and residents when getting the best service, why giving a tip when you arrive will ensure no waiting.

It’s a paradise, an oasis in the desert. A must visit. Don’t let the construction nearby put you off going. We were not disturbed by any noise.

So there were some really really good things about this hotel.

I am currently hosting a group, corporate entertaining for the Qatar Open Tennis 7th - 22nd February, 2025

Held every year, at the magnificent Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

At just 210 rials I think you will struggle to find everything offered at the Grand Regency Wyndham garden.

It is dated, if you have ever visited old hotels in Moscow or Odessa it does have that falling down feeling but in a good way.

The old fashioned concierge and service reminded me of excellent hotels in fays gone by. A piano player in the lobby and stunning floral decorations.

It doesn’t compare of course to the new builds in the West Bay but my party, mainly European really enjoyed the old world luxury in a hotel frequented mostly by locals, which gives it a very authentic service based experience.

The breakfast provided was better than the hotel. truly 5 star and anything and everything you could want.

The high light for me was the spa and the wonderful massage I received. The pool was very small and the lounging area a little cramped but aromatherapy and oud fills the air and you stop noticing the old carpets and fraying drapes of an age gone by.

Lovely authentic spot for travellers on a budget located close to the airport and Landmark mall.

I had to tell you all. I had to share this. The best pedicure I have ever had in my life and not so expensive either.

The first thing was the scent and serenity when I entered the spa. To let you all know this is a vast business hotel, very modern, sprawling. The decor is not really to my taste, lots of orange not a favourite of mine. It is certainly not the kind of hotel I would expect to have spa treatments of this level.

The lady who took care of me was a beautiful soul, quiet, but nothing was too much trouble for me. I was reclining in a beautiful lounger with gentle earth sounds reverberating around me.

I was in a state of bliss, orchids floating in bowls all around, lots of candles.

But it was the treatment that was so memorable. I have travelled around the UEA for my work and I’ve stayed in many 5 star hotels.

This spa experience was super standout. It made me think I was royalty, or a very important guest. When it’s an ordinary girl like me.

At the end the lady put so many lotions and potions, I could feel astringent, tingle, warmth, loads of sensations, and then focused careful massage, then wrapped in hot boots.

The only thing I didn’t have was toe nail polish, I prefer not but this was included too if I wanted it.

The whole thing said it would take an hour. It lasted about one hour and 10 minutes.

I stayed at the hotel for one night and had a very comfortable stay, I met the hotel manager who was very positive about her appointment. I think she was from Germany or Belgium but it was the spa I shall be returning to again.

Jones The Grocer

I was introduced to Jones the Grocer in Qatar at the Gate shopping mall where I spent a good deal of my spare time. I love the high end designer stores. People sometimes complain it's too small but I like the luxury brands and glorious eateries.

The reason I like Jones the Grocer is it's a great place to meet my friends, it's safe and the customers are very mixed and cosmopolitan. I like that as we like to people watch. The food is really good and fresh an international menu so there's definitely something for everyone from burgers to creative salads and lots and lots of sweet treats too.

I like the modern decor, steel exposed ceilings and modern lighting all adds to the ambience.

I was in Dubai last week and visited the one in The Palm. It was very busy and we had to wait for a table. The food didn't disappoint although it was a little more expensive than we had expected.

We went on a Thursday and enjoyed the steak special with fries, 200 AED including dessert. The service was good. The best thing about this spot is the view from the patio, really special and something we don't get at The Gate.

i recommend Jones The Grocer. I always enjoy my visits.

Mathaf Museum

THE LARGEST PRIVATE ART COLLECTION IN QATAR

Free for students, the museum opens from 11.30am. Closes on Mondays.

The museums that everyone talks about are the Museum of Islamic Art and the new National museum due for completion Dec 2014, the architecture designed by Jean Nouvel.

The largest art collector in Qatar, is HE Hassan Ali Al Thani and he is the one who has shared his wonderful collection with the people of Qatar. His collection was donated to QF and is now housed in the Mathaf.

It is a peaceful gallery and the painting of the Emir are worth a visit if just to see those.

The exhibitions are interesting and I like it here the most of all the museums in Doha. It tells a story of our history and culture in art and I feel it brings me to my home.

The exhibits are spread over thousands of square feet, much of the collection is not on display until the new museum is completed and the whole collection can be shown in a new space.

Loved by everyone throughout Qatar, it’s an attraction where the most discerning can shop, relax and enjoy the finer experiences in life.

MY PREFERED MALL IN DOHA

I come to Landmark at least once each week to meet my friends, get my brows shaped and my nails manicured.

I like Parisian Nails just passed the elephant in side the food court and also the booth outside Paul's Cafe where we love to have a meal or enjoy something to drink, a Turkish coffee and small cake.

I like the brands for clothes although many western brands not for arabic woman body shape. I am OK in Zara and Massimo Dutti, the Gap is good for workout outfit and for traditional woman very nice Abaya stores too.

I like the shoe stores, KG, Kurt Geiger and Dune and I have found a few great tops and T-shirt at Stadavarius also owned by Inditex maybe also I think Pull and Bear. This is a more preppy American sportswear brand like Lucky or Diesel, I buy from here sometimes.

I like the house stores The White Company, Zara home and L'Occitane and Body Shop for body and skincare.

The pharmacy staff are very informed and will give you good advice. When you are done you can go to the movies or have a Starbucks. Right side by side is Godiva the chocolate shop before you leave.

It is a great shopping destination, the only thing missing for ex pats and visitors is valet parking.

One place to cross off your list at Landmark is TGIFs, I did not enjoy this food. It was not good food.
