Barry Gym is just like the City, perfect for driven individuals who like to work hard, get results, be the best. I like it because the people are friendly not snobby at all, there’s no look at me competition, everyone just gets on with it and the place is well maintained and well run. You get exactly what it says on the tin.

It’s a high intensity place boutique style gym with amazing facilities and classes catering mainly to 30 something professionals who want to get out of the office and push their fitness levels. What it’s not, sit in the sauna or jacuzzi for an hour and feel like you’ve done something.

So be aware Barry’s is not traditional gym with free access to equipment all day. It’s more of a boutique fitness studio focused on instructor led classes so you pay for an individual class £30 or for bulk classes 5-10 classes at a cheaper rate valid for 12 months.

Think instructor led classes rather than open-use gym space. It’s HIIT high intensity interval training in the signature Red Room, which is loud music dimly lit designed to motivate and push you and they combine treadmill running with strength and resistance work. It’s hard core work outs 50-60 minutes but really fun, it’s structured and scheduled, you book a slot rather than just turning up for general gym use.

I suggest going along a couple of times to try it and see if you like it before booking a course. The instructors cue the music and guide you through the exercises which change daily targeting different muscle groups so if you can handle more than a couple of times a week you don’t get bored.

There’s no relaxation area, no pool, sauna steam or jacuzzi it’s not that kind of place. You get nice changing area with lockers, hot showers free towels and basic toiletries. I take my own. There is a fuel bar serving drinks and snacks but again I tend to take my own water and eat lunch elsewhere. More of an in, do it and leave type place. Most people only have the hour for class.

You book your slot via the website or on the Barry’s app. They also have a location in Soho and you can visit either if you have booked a course of classes.

Be aware if you book a class don’t cancel and don’t turn up you will be charged.

If you get really into it you can have a monthly rolling membership for 8, 12, 16 or 30 classes per month. I haven’t got to this level yet, twice a week and then once the next week is the best I’ve done, 6 in a month so cheaper to book in blocks for me.

Standard opening hours in the city are

Monday–Thursday: 05:30 – 21:15

Friday: 05:30 – 20:15

Saturday–Sunday: 08:15 – 14:15

Class schedules do vary week to week within these times.

Barry’s is a work out experience more than a traditional Gym membership. When you go you’re participating so it’s not for slackers.

I’d say it’s not for beginner level fitness, if you are a runner like me or a cyclist it’s great instructor led interval strength training indoors.

Get ready to sweat. When you’ve completed you first class you’ll feel exhausted but beware Barry’s is a little bit addictive.

.

I follow this investment guy business leader on LinkedIn with a background in fashion Roger Wade who was talking the other day about how he believes shopping in physical retail stores will never die completely and the high street will come back for these reasons, things that shopping online just cannot replace like the physical experience to touch, feel and see quality of goods, to try on before deciding and the social interaction and excitement consumers get from the “Shopping Experience” delivered by expert retailers.

I am predominately an online shopper. I have been guilty in the past of buying more than one size of garment I like and then returning what doesn’t work, bad I know so I’ve been trying to stop this, instead repeat buying from brands I know the size I need and changing my shopping habits to be a bit more inline with a more conscious consumer approach. Also money is tighter than usual after Christmas and I’ve made a few bad mistakes shopping online of late where the product when it arrived just didn’t match the pictures, the quality didn’t meet my expectations and everything has had to go back, leaving me deflated and disappointed having to embark on the whole experience again.

With this in mind I decided to try doing it the old fashioned way. I invited my Mum to go on a shopping trip after work on a Friday to see what the experience was actually like.

We went to Westfield in Stratford, E20.

First off for 5.00pm on a Friday night we couldn’t believe how deserted it was. Even the food places, the cafes and restaurants, usually packed with people were pretty much deserted.

It was nice in a way to not have to deal with crowds and no problems parking but the place had no atmosphere, no buzz, no excitement which doesn’t exactly get you in the mood to shop.

I was interested in a pair of Adidas Samba trainers of course I’d seen online but there are three or four different styles and variations, Samba regular, samba MN and samba XLG and without seeing them and trying them on, I just didn’t know which ones I wanted.

We were also looking for black leggings, not super expensive. Just decent quality for every day no seams or pockets and not over branded so you could wear them with a jacket if you wanted to for work. I know it sounds crazy but online I’ve struggled to find this. Sure there’s fabletics for £12 that fall apart after a couple of washes, or at the other end, Alo and Sweaty Betty, (Lululemon are off the legging list for me) £130, more than I wanted to pay in January but nothing in the middle.

We went into Flannels where we were honestly the only people, one salesperson in the ladies department who did welcome us but didn’t offer any help. They had a sale on that didn’t really feel like a sale, just a few items with £10 or £20 off. Most things were still regular price.

We did buy two pairs of leggings The Couture Club at £40 we liked and were exactly what we were looking for. They were the last two pairs in black so that was a result I thought.

I went to look for the Adidas Sambas, unfortunately all I could find was Gazelles, which I do like but I have a pair already and didn’t want to repeat. I have also been warned by a friend to remember what goes in the sale is what no one else wants, may be for a reason, wink, wink.

Although I have to say I did get a great deal from hands on shopping the Flannels sale. I purchased two pairs of leggings I was able to try on, to decide I liked them, experience a new brand and with no issues having to return. (Except when I wore pair number one they didn’t hold up, so pair number two do have to go back sadly) These weren’t on sale. I was also able to check the brand online later, see if there was anything else I liked, knowing the fit and size I needed. It’s an advantage shopping in store if what you get works out.

I don’t know if Flannels stock Adidas Sambas, I didn’t buy new trainers, like I said there were no sales assistants around to help, the biggest thing missing from the in store experience.

When we walked through the make up department we would have had a shop there too except no staff on the counters. It was really dead.

I’ve heard on the grapevine from my hairdresser a few Flannels shops are closing, I don’t know if this one is but can understand why if it is one for the chop. Retail cannot survive without customers and when customers do come into store it’s unlikely they will spend without staff on hand to serve and help.

To sum up I liked the trip out to Westfield. Was it successful? Not really on the leggings front, no on the sneakers front. I also needed a few new make up things I didn’t manage to get because of no service, basically no staff on the counters. I did like being out and about shopping, checking things out in person, something I rarely do. And time spent with my Mum was great. We had fun together. It would have been better if there were more people around, more atmosphere but I think it’s a reflection on shopping behaviour, the economy and the fact it’s January and everyone is skint this month.

Not sure I’d rush back to the big shopping mall but we have said we’ll do a Saturday in central London soon, maybe Oxford, Regent St to check out the big shops and smaller boutiques. I do want to go back to the ALO shop on Regent St, fingers crossed for another pair of airlift leggings (which I do LOVE) and check out the new Kith sneaker shop while I am there.

I am definitely giving online a miss for a while unless I know exactly what I am getting, it’s just too risky. Definitely prefer trying on and seeing quality before I buy. I am totally sick of returns.

Quick update; I wore one pair of the new Couture Club leggings today and they went really baggy especially around the back of the knees and bum area. Ended up being too long and no support in the fabric which is a disappointment. Won’t be buying anymore after all. The Couture Club leggings have no recovery in the fabric whatsoever after being on for just a few hours. Turns out I have to go back to Westfield to return the other pair. Good job it’s not too far from work. Although I’ve got a feeling you don’t get your money back shopping in store only a credit, urghh, shopping online you can return for a refund when things don’t work out.

Can I start by saying I have never paid £128 for a pair of yoga leggings in my life. The first pair of Alo leggings I bought I found in TK maxx about five years ago and I paid about £30 for them if I remember correctly. £29.99, maybe £34.99 at a push, definitely no more. I really liked them, I bought a size small, I am about a size 10 and even though they were snug I loved the fit and the quality. However I am 5' 6" and in the end the legs were far too long for me, they wrinkled on the leg in the middle at the back of the knee so even though i really really liked them i ended up giving them away to a mate with much longer legs. She's 5' 10" and got loads of wear out of them.

A month or so ago another friend of mine who loves black, passed on these pale blue Alo leggings to me, Alo Airlift leggings in 7/8 so supposed to be a cropped fit. They actually come down to my ankles pretty much. She bought them in a moment of madness for summer thinking she'd wear them but found herself always reaching for a black favourites. She said she'd never wear them and I was the lucky recipient.

And I have fallen in love. At first I thought the Alo Airlift leggings were going to be too sculpting and suck you in uncomfortable for me, not what I was used to such a compact fit but no, I love them. The waist band is high so you get no muffin top and the absolute best thing of all is the miracle fabric. The other day I split a whole tub of chocolate ice cream down them after my work out and before meeting my friends with nothing to change into and no where to try and clean the mess.

With a bottle of water and a sponge I have for cleaning my windscreen in the car I was able to get the pale blue leggings almost back to new, it was like a miracle, all the chocolate stains just vanished. I couldn't believe it.

I've worn the leggings for a run, I done yoga in them, I've played tennis in them and even worn them at the weekend for lounging.

I've read a lot of reviews about expensive leggings. I was turned off Lululemon for the same reason as the Alo full length one's too long for me, I don't know if the they do a 7/8 but loads of women said in the first place they were only good for "very leggy" women, which is not me. And then in 2024 I read a load of press including a big article in Business of Fashion BOF a media publication I really like and subscribe to by Sheena Butler Young entitled “At Lulelemon, being black is “off brand” about a former Lululemon employee Miya Dotson whistle blowing about Performative DEI Practices, basically racism which completely put me off the brand. Miya’s story and her fight to get it out there was totally heart rending and I could never proudly support and wear a brand that could treat anyone so poorly.

Alo Yoga on the other hand seems to be on the rise in terms of profile, popularity and ethics. Like I said at the top of my snoop I have never paid over £100 for a pair of leggings until NOW. I've just been into the shop on regent st and dropped £128 for the navy version of Alo airlift leggings i love them so much I had to have another pair for the winter.

I love fashion, I love expensive fashion and I love a tennis brand. I have written about Lacoste and their long peak baseball caps before, I love a Lacoste cap, Lacoste are probably my favourite tennis brand and I like my branded socks too. I am always interested in Lacoste collabs especially as the pieces released are usually limited edition and become quite collectible, something I really like, having something tough to copy or get your hands on.

French lifestyle fashion brand Apc focusing on high quality within minimalist design have collaborated with loads of people. the American workwear brand Carhartt springs to mind. They also collaborated with Lacoste on a series of socks, bags and caps for 2022 Roland Garros tennis tournament in Paris no longer available and highly collectible.

The range was launched May 2022 (ahead of the 2022 French Open / Roland-Garros tournament).

A.P.C. – known for minimalist French fashion and Lacoste – iconic French sportswear brand, deeply tied to tennis and Roland-Garros brought out some amazing pieces which were immediately duped in China.

I have been in search of some of the socks no longer available and discovered uncovered a few fakes along the way which I have to say aren’t totally terrible if you don’t have to pay too

much money.

The key differences for me are when it comes to the finish, when you look inside the socks the dupes have loads of loose threads and tend to run a lot smaller in size than the real thing.

The dupes don’t have the green apc crocodile on the foot and although have the white Lacoste card holding them don’t come individually wrapped in a Lacoste resealable plastic bag either.

I have also noticed the dupes are available in a turquoise green not actually released by APC Lacoste, the official colours were pastels pink and blue, white and khaki green.

The biggest giveaway is the serial number on dupes, this serial number appears on all colours of fakes and is likely the key indicator your socks came from DHgate or another Chinese dupe website.

Here’s the serial number to look out for if you are looking for authentic APC Lacoste socks from 2022

RA 1801 OP WTW 35/38

You are going to find this number on APC Lacoste dupes regardless of colour.

The serial number on the authentic pink pair is

RA 1802 00 M5U 35/38

The serial number for an authentic blue pair is

RA 1802 00 A3Q 39/42

When you see a dupe next to the authentic pair it’s very easy to see the difference in the pastel colours. Not so obvious on the white one except for no green apc logo on the foot. If they don’t have the croc branding on the sole then you are looking at a fake. Hope this helps.

First of all I don’t know what the active ingredients in the Inkey list tripedtide plumping lip balm are (and the reviews on this product online to be fair aren’t great) I was recommended to try it by a friend, I’d noticed her lips looked not necessarily bigger but more hydrated and plump and she told me this is what she’d been using. I paid £11 at boots but I’ve since seen it online, on sale for around £8.00 which may be because a few people have said it’s gritty, not something I have found to be honest. I’ve been using the Tripeptide lip balm for a couple of months and I love it for my lips that definitely look and feel plumped. I put lipliner in nude on first so you get that two tone liner gloss look everyone seems to be wearing at the moment. It comes in four colour options, two other tints, a pinky one, a darker berry colour and a clear balm but I like the mocha because it’s like a combo nude gloss.

I have never had lip fillers, don’t like needles, don’t want them, don’t actually think I need it, I like my lips, not Scarlett Johansson but hey I certainly don’t want to look like a big fish.

I am very outdoorsy, always working out, on the tennis court, running, at the gym, on the slopes in the winter, I like to snowboard so my lips take a battering and it’s probably the one area on my face I need to keep hydrated and moisturised as I am prone to cold sores and dry cracked corners which can be painful. Having a small tube I can keep with me in my pocket to reapply during the day works for me.

The cracked lips is why I keep a tube of Extra strength Orajel in my make up bag too. It’s brilliant for any painful areas or sore spots on your lips.

My other absolute go to lip product is dr. Brandt no more lines. This is a combination hydration lip balm, primer, come filler which I know sounds a bit weird but if like me you don’t want to go anywhere near stretching out your lips with injectables but would like to improve fine lines around them then this baby does the job instantly and can be used under your regular liner, lipstick or gloss, whichever you prefer.

I use all three of these products together, my orajel when and if my lips are injured, which usually happens in the sun or when I go to the snow and the other two every day. The Tripeptide lip plumping Balm I have got addicted to, it’s a lovely product that really gives your natural pout a boost.

You can source the Inkey list lip balm at Sephora or on their website. They currently have an offer on where you can buy all four for about £30 which is a great deal. I think I paid about £15.00 for mine.

Loads of my friends aren’t bothered about buying sunscreen. I am pretty pale naturally, freckles and whilst I do tan I have to wear it. I spend a lot of time outside in the summer not just on holiday, if I don’t want to end up looking like a tomato I need to wear sunscreen. For me there is no better sunscreen product than the Lancaster Dry oil which comes in both spf factor 30 and factor 50.

And if you shop on Notino.co.uk at the moment they will include a 30ml free gift, currently the factor spf 30 Lancaster milk which is also a really nice product especially when it’s free.

The 150ml Lancaster Sun beauty dry oil spf 30 is regular price around £38 which to be honest is too expensive for me but I’ve found it on perfumesclub.co.uk for only £17.54 plus shipping which is a killer deal at 54% off.

On notino.co.uk you are going to pay a bit more at £22.40 but they also have a Lancaster gift set including a golden tan maximiser after sun lotion for £39.61 plus £3.99 shipping.

Notino.co.uk have some great offers on beauty so whilst I wouldn’t suggest signing up to any beauty product website this one does have unbelievable deals, offers and gifts you might want to keep your eye on.

Why I like the Lancaster products so much, firstly I have never burned while using them and on holiday I am always in and out of the water. I apply first thing before I get dressed, everywhere to make sure I don’t miss any spots and the product doesn’t make a mess in my clothes, dries almost instantly, doesn’t smell and doesn’t leave any residue. All the things that are important to me.

If I am out and about hiking, playing sports I never reapply during the day except maybe a little on my face if it’s a very sunny day. On holiday lounging by the pool, swimming, hiking, I will reapply once after lunch but that’s it.

If travelling to a hot holiday destination like the Caribbean I take a factor 50 for the first 4-5 days and the then swap to factor 30 and I have never burned using this product and always end up with a tan that lasts and I very rarely peel, something I cannot stand.

The Lancaster after sun products I only use on holiday and they are really good too, I believe using a after sun does prevent the peel and does keep your skin in pretty good shape with little or no tingle whatsoever.

I hate sunburn, I cannot stand the feeling on the skin or the shivers it gives you the reason I am so Lancaster loyal, for me there is no better sun care skin regime. If you don’t plan ahead, Look for the distinctive orange boxes in the duty free at the airport. It won’t be as cheap as Notino.co.uk but you’ll be so happy you have this product a try.

I don’t wear a lot of make up. I am more sporty spice than posh spice. That said I have been seriously considering Victoria Beckham’s Satin Kajal Liner, award winning waterproof longwear eyeliner £32. A friend I go running with has one and I’ve used it a few times in the changing room at the gym after we’ve worked out. It’s nice and doesn’t run even if you get sweaty so definitely waterproof. I follow Victoria on TikTok. She’s always talking about her eyeliner. Usually in the car going somewhere fancy. It comes in loads of shades 21 in total. It has a smudger tool on the end and she almost had me sold.

Then another friend gave me her Velvet Love eyeliner to try from Zoeva Cosmetics. Never heard of them and boy was I shocked. All the same credentials as the Victoria Beckham eyeliner, goes on like a charm, creamy, easy to apply, deep colour pigment, survived my workout and when I went to the website to check how much £18. Honestly couldn’t believe it. The only differences were no smudging tool on the end of the velvet love eyeliner but hey I can live without that, £3.70

cheaper if you buy more than one, and cruelty free and sustainability credentials front and centre of the brand with loads of focus even on the raw materials they use including absolutely no metals (or fish scales to produce shimmer in their metallic shades.) Love that. When I found out about the fish scales in make up it did gross me out.

With Zoeva velvet love eyeliner you get a staggering 29 shades to pick from and it’s a gel formula which feels great and doesn’t drag the eye at all. Also you don’t get the problem of the pencil breaking in the wood and when you sharpen it the lead keeps dropping out. I do the smudging if I want it with my finger.

I had to share Zoeva Eyeliner. I am sure there are literally loads of us girls who only really wear eyeliner and like to mix up the colours. I can’t imagine another pencil eyeliner replacing this one for me. I love Velvet Love gel eyeliner.

We haven’t had a true love story in tennis since Andre Agassi and the brilliant and very funny Stefi Graf got together. They married in 2001 and 24 Years later they have two children and are still happily together.

I digress.

What a great semi final At Queens club where we saw Carlos Alcarez semi final match against fellow Spaniard 38 years old Roberto Bautista Agut where he came out the Victor winning two sets 6-4, 6-4.

The match was actually quite thrilling and closer and more exciting than the score would suggest, but also with the rumours around a potential more than friends relationship blossoming between him and British No. 1 and former US Open champion Emma Radacanu, it was cute to see her watching on with her girlfriend Myah, the daughter of her coach Mark Petchey, from the Queen club balcony.

Alcarez plays 30th seed Czech Jiri Lehecka in the final so

It’ll be interesting to see if Emma is there again cheering Carlos on.

I’ve read a few interviews where Alvarez has been asked about his “friendship” with Emma and in his gentlemanly style has always kept his cards close to his chest, suggesting when he asked her if she’d like to team up with him, No. 2 in The world for the reformatted celebrity professional mixed doubles event at the US open in September saying she didn’t respond immediately.

She’s been spotted a few times watching him play, the suggestion there’s anything going on brushed aside with comments from Carlos like if a grand slam final was happening in his homeland Spain he’d be there watching and saying coyly about last years Wimbledon final that he hoped she enjoyed the tennis.

I just watched a super cute video where the pair were on camera talking about their upcoming mixed doubles challenge at the US open this September. I think Carlos definitely likes her, he just needs the confidence aside from his top notch performances on the tennis court to woo the beautiful and bubbly Radacanu.

After Paula Badosa and Stephanos Tsistpas from Greece split up, tennis’s beautiful people couple, tennis fans could not

not imagine a more high profile and charismatic couple.

In the film when asked if they won the toss on court would they serve or receive, Carlos looked at Emma and she said my answer is you’ll decide.

I read tickets for queens club tennis were going for a whopping £495 for the exclusive event on the calendars of London’s who’s who. The event has new sponsors this year HSBC after Cinch last year. I can even remember going as a kid when Stella Artois were the sponsors of the tournament for years.

It’s a super fun event for tennis fans, closed tune station Barrons Court in West London.

It’s the precuser to next week when all eyes will be on SW19 and the Wimbledon championships but for me Queens club tennis is the best tennis event and the most fun and relaxed in the UK.

Queens club always means the summer is here in the UK for me. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Watch this space for romance blossoming updates, we already have a new hashtag #alcaranu

And if they win in flushing meadows in the US the audience and media interest could surpass The doubles partnership for Spain at last years Olympics, and who’d have thought anything could top Nadal and Alvarez on court together.

Everyone will be waiting for the kiss if it happens.

I’ve added the link for Tennis365 where I saw the video. It’s a site I love for catching up on the more behind the scenes what’s up on the tennis circuit around the world.

Carlos doesn’t have any problems on the court but navigating a high profile courtship with one of the beautiful young talents in tennis will take all his courage and charm. Emma’s going to keep him on his toes I

think.

I predict more than friends for sure. Carlos is 22 Emma is 22. Emma born 13th November, 2002 is just a few months older, a fiery Scorpio where as Carlos the bull, a Taurean born 5th May, 2003. Yep it would be so good for tennis. No

Pressure guys if you are reading this. Big fan of you both regardless.

For the longest time I have bought and worn Calvin Klein cotton low cut cushioned ankle socks. I probably have 20 or so pairs on the go at any one time. And have never struggled to buy them. As well as plain white, they made them in gorgeous pastel colours, pale pink, pale green, pale blue, pale yellow and every conceivable colour combo with white so perfect for tennis.

The very best thing about them is the cushioning around the ankle, an extra thick layer that stops any kind of rub or blister discomfort and also stops them slipping off inside your shoe. Like I say I absolutely love them.

However I went to yoga the other day and noticed my socks were looking a bit grey so I decided it was time for a clear out and 12 new pairs.

I spent 5 hours online searching for the said socks only to find this gem of a product has been replaced by much thinner, no cushioning around the ankles choices, there are a lot on the Calvin Klein website to be fair but they are all the same, just with a thin white band around the top I know are going to end up slipping inside my shoes.

Why oh why do brands do this, get you hooked on something you then cannot replace. I’d imagine my amazing socks are more expensive to make. I don’t want the brand name, I want the function.

I literally found one pack of three pairs online, one black (no good for tennis) one pale grey and one white in America so the £20 shipping costs for three pairs of socks (one I couldn’t really use) put them out of reach.

In the end absolutely frustrated I ended up buying two pairs of pastel coloured socks from APC for Lacoste, I like Lacoste except these socks are not low cut, so I’ll probably not wear them as much and three pairs of French Connection low cut socks in white which were a random find because when I went to the French Connection website they don’t have any low cut cushioned ankle socks either. They have opted for white with dodgy 1970’s muddy coloured stripes in orange and brown or cobalt and peach yuk which would be impossible to style.

If anyone knows where I can buy low cut cushioned around the ankle socks please pop a comment or if Calvin Klein sock people designers read this think about bringing these amazing socks back.

They may cost a little bit more to make but at this point I’d pay over the odds for them.

Nothing more frustrating when you are love something and are completely brand loyal and then they take it away.

I did find blister resist low cut cushioned socks at Sweaty Betty two pairs for £30

but the colour combos are so ugly I don’t know anyone who’d buy them. Please make a plain pair in white or pastel colours Sweaty Betty.

I follow a guy @asht_talks on Instagram who talks about, business, finance and geo politics around the globe and recently saw one of his films talking about Mayfair, New Bond St in particular being a ghost town and luxury retailers at a loss what to do as the government has removed the tax incentives for visitors. Anyone shopping in the past could claim their VAT 20% back on purchases at Heathrow airport before returning home. I’ve done it myself when I lived in China.

Now I read Stella McCartney is closing her London flagship store amidst massive losses £25M to be precise 9 years before her lease expires. I’d imagine at a significant penalty for breaking her lease terms.

What is happening to British fashion giant, she’s the daughter of a Beatle and American vegan activist Linda McCartney Nee Eastman with a fortune behind her.

The standard writer fashion editor Joe Bromley asks if she can turn things around, personally as a lover of her sneakers, for their animal friendly cruelty free status I am not so sure.

I still pick up an Evening Standard every day for the tube ride home.

I like to support British and whilst I’ve never really liked her clothes, weird, over sized shapes, bright colours and ethnic patterns, at one point backlash around using African heritage prints without recognition or remuneration to the people trying to reclaim their heritage, perhaps the downfall. Cultural appropriation was suggested when she sent models down the runway in the Ankara print popular in West Africa especially Nigeria.

As the Stella McCartney cuts don’t suit very many people, wide leg trousers and manly jackets, strange dresses, I have supported the brand in the running shoe department and have blown the budget on four different pairs of Stella McCartney trainers, one pair from her store in Bond Street, one pair from Selfridges and two collaborations with adidas.

I also confess to shopping her collaboration with fast fashion brand H&M, where the oversized theme was toned down and I bought a dinner jacket which I still have and wear and a dinner shirt, I wore a lot that eventually lost it’s bright white appeal.

I don’t know whether to be worried London’s premier shopping area is going down the pan and Stella McCartney is just kicking off the mass exodus as the all wealth managers and high net worth individuals look for better terms for their millions, billions and trillions overseas.

I don’t know what prime shopping real estate in the heart of Mayfair costs. Clearly the shoppers have disappeared.

Only a couple of years ago we saw another British fashion designer close her London flagship store on Dover St, amidst record reported losses and cash injections from husband David. The VB flagship store, located within a gorgeous three-story Georgian townhouse, was a significant part of the Victoria Beckham brand's presence in London.

I understand fashion designers must stay true to their aesthetic and not yield to the demands of an ever changing fashion audience. However I think brands now have to think about where their social capital actually resides and get to know their customers for real if they are to survive.

We the customers just don’t have the disposable income we once had for frivolous fashion purchases when we’ve no longer got much of a social life; things to dress up for and our mortgages, especially in the capital have left us with little spare spending moola.

This was a crazy good experience my boss organised for a few of us. We’d had a good couple of weeks, put in some long hours so he wanted to reward us with something different from the usual dinner or drinks.

I’m really sporty but never got the hang of golf unless it’s crazy golf. I’ve had a few lessons in the past, I didn’t catch the bug.

That said we had a great time at Tee London. It was something really different to do with colleagues.

It’s not what you think. It’s highest tech golf simulators that allow you to play all the top golf courses around the world and you leave with data letting you know how you got on.

I’ve never done anything like it before. It was so much fun and mind blowing using the simulator.

It was like crazy golf without the seaside and Astro turf.

My boss is obviously a member, I don’t think you can just go on an adhoc basis but for anyone into golf it’s a brilliant actually quite mind blowing experience.

You can join for as little as £25 per month or they do one off goes for £60 if you just want to try it out. If you sign up for a year you get one month free. My boss pays for a gold membership at £145 per month where he gets 8 simulator sessions included and can buy extra £60 sessions for £20. He also gets 4 guest passes included every month which allowed him to treat us to the experience.

Tee Box members have created a community, an escape for golf nuts, (I put my runners on to blow off steam at lunchtime, this is what the big bosses do, and apparently Tee Box is becoming Golf's Data Driven Community. We had a good time it’s a welcoming warm space, where city guys and gals can really get to grips with their golf, through either dedicated practice sessions, tuition or virtual golf experiences. Definitely more geared to the serious golfer with incredible technology to thank for that! Tee Box currently operate 4 simulators, with 2 more on the way, to include a standalone Custom Fitting suit at the Gutter lane location.

Did you know Cos is just H&M under a different brand. I didn’t?

I’ve been shopping for my minimalist staples, white cottons, T shirts, shirts, for a couple of years and had absolutely no idea Cos is a brand within a brand launched in 2007 by Swedish billionaires (worth 28 billion) father and son Erling and Stefan Perrson.

I am usually quite good doing my homework but this one slipped by me. I think because the Cos concept is so different and the better quality clothing originally sort of tricks you into thinking the brand is more socially conscious.

Initially the brand sought to target a market, me, looking for Isabel Marant or Celine simplicity at a much more affordable price point.

And they seemed to achieve that at the outset. They grew quickly, with real estate acquisition, by 2018 the had 291 locations worldwide which led to massive over production of stock which had to be disposed of, it was reported in Business of Fashion over $4 billion worth, as sales declined.

The recognised industry agencies for fashion sustainability rated Cos as the following

Fashion Revolution Transparency Rating: 66/100

Good On You Sustainability Rating: 3/5

Remake Fashion Accountability Report Rating: 39/150

Placing it firmly in the fast fashion camp, with over production and a crazy numbers digital e commerce offering.

The Cos brand is marketing minimalist designs well made to last, and yet they have over 1100 styles of clothing items on their site at any given moment, last checked 645 pieces for women, 450 pieces for men.

Despite proclaiming to sell items that ‘last beyond the season”. This is far too many items of clothing, impossible to sell even when claiming the items are ‘timeless designs and sustainably made pieces’.

I cannot believe my ignorance about this clothing brand. The interesting thing for me Uniglo, which I do recognise as fast fashion has come along and had Cos’s lunch in the minimalist space, Cos’s performance so poor, after owners predicted 50% growth since 2018, 3 board executives have resigned and stores have had to close.

I am writing this as a COS customer who had absolutely no idea the brand was part of the H&M empire and sits alongside Arket, And other stories, Monki, weekday and singular society.

In 2023 Lea Rytz Goldman the lady tasked with turning around the fortunes of the Cos Brand, bailed and went to Tommy Hilfiger as Global Brand President.

You know that feeling when you find out your man is off with someone else, told you one thing and did the exact opposite. I feel like this about Cos, like I’ve been hoodwinked, duped even when I know it’s my own fault. I didn’t look closely enough. All the information is there in plain sight. When I read that clothes sold by Cos were traced back to 14 year old children in Myanmar being paid 13p an hour it makes me sick I bought them.

I am definitely put off Cos for good and now I need to take a closer look at Tommy Hilfiger.

I fear very soon if we want to be conscious we’ll have to start making our own clothes.

They are part of a British running apparel company based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, I think, Run Limited. Founded by Adrian Vaszaru and Jonny Brown they are doing for runners in London what Sweaty Betty and Lululemon did for yoga and community, bringing people together through collaboration with running clubs across London, absolute genius to add value in this way when everyone is coming out of a thick depressive fog of isolation and social distancing. I get the sense this business was built on a geniune passion for running, community and experience and all the benefits getting out for a run bring, way before the shopping and E commerce. The City has been hard hit as well as the restaurants and eco community in the square mile serving the sector. It’s been a ghost town, so much so I haven’t really explored the shops for ages. I have started coming back into the office more now why I found myself wondering into the shop.

Why the discovery of the high tech store on Cheapside in London near St Paul’s was worth a snoop. An absolute pleasure to pop in for a browse. I only found it my chance, ironically next to the Krispy Creme donut shop. Everyone in the office fancied a sweet treat and I got the short straw.

The shoe store is the kind of modern shop you’d expect to find on Oxford St or Regent St in prime real estate position for a big brand but this is not a big brand like that anyway. This is not Foot Locker or sports direct where the assistants say init and the shoes are all over the floor. The shop and the brand felt perfectly positioned to capture the imagination of all the City of London girls and boys working and playing hard and certainly I noticed more people are having a run at lunchtime these days than a skinful. The City has changed a lot since the pandemic with life beginning to come back as more people return to offices and this store and business was an absolute breath of fresh air.

I am seriously thinking about a pair of the New Balance sneakers. I’ve been thinking about a new pair of trainers. I’ve looked at a few brands but not yet taken the plunge as I don’t like the idea of sweat shops and fakes and £150 is a big investment especially if you make a mistake.

The thing I liked about the Run Limited store is the selection. They had a lot of choice and stock in store, from Nike, Puma, Hoka, New Balance, Salomon, asics, Saucony, Circle, Norda, On running pretty much every brand you can think of all under one roof so very easy to compare and no pressure to buy from the sales person, also a runner who was able to speak the language.

I don’t run so much anymore I used to be a fanatic but gave my knees a break for tennis and swimming although I do understand the feeling of freedom people talk about out alone on a run, running is definitely a meditation if you haven’t tried it.

As I browsed the shop I was impressed by some of the clothes design, where the brand has collaborated not with massive brands to market but smaller artists, like Murugiah and Jordan Amy Lee to help. I like that. I like the story and £40 for a T shirt well made in the UK is sustainable so this I shall be supporting when I buy my new New balance Fuelcell sneakers at £140.

This running apparel supply store shop is an experience I cannot wait to return to. They are stylish, fun, modern healthy and authentic. Loved it in there. going back as soon as I get paid.

I was compelled to write this snoop. I fear one day I am going to stroll down Hill St in Mayfair and The Coach and Horses will be gone.

There are three pubs in Mayfair we, my family, absolutely LOVE. The Punchbowl, The Footman and The Coach and Horses. All these spots have history not just for London but for me and my brother too. When I worked in the west end of London these three watering holes but especially the Coach and Horses were the spots we'd all spill out into the street of an evening as the nights got longer and the UK weather better. I remember loads of banter, a great place to meet and always a great time. It was a regular thing. It was our social media, people getting together, talking, hooking up, having fun. We spent our money, we didn't care, we loved having a place to go, even alone, even a girl could walk in and be guaranteed you'd bump into someone you knew, a true local.

We returned a couple of weeks back. I had a meeting nearby and called an old friend who works in the neighbourhood and suggested we meet for a drink and a sandwich.

It was a Wednesday. I have to say I was really shocked how dead it was. It wasn't raining although aside from the two of us there was only one other person sitting alone at a table with a laptop.

Not sure what has happened to this gorgeous old pub with no customers. What was once a lively hostelry full of energetic locals and busy no nonsense staff to keep everyone in line it's turned into a tourist destination with no tourists boasting history but no atmosphere.

We ate two marguerita pizzas perfectly adequately prepared had a couple of drinks each and left without the Coach and Horses uplift we remembered from a time pre covid when london life was happening.

I will return to The Coach and Horses after work 5.00pm, 5.30pm as the nights get longer to see if the old magic comes back when the loyal locals return once more.

The coach and Horses is part of a pub chain now, Shepherd Neame, which does a test to being Britains oldest brewer. Like many independents swallowed up by bigger businesses to ensure survival a little je ne sais quoix has been lost for me and that usually comes with an incredible host and landlord, may be the only thing missing to bring this gem of a place loved by so many back to life.

I’ve been looking for my green baseball cap after I saw Meghan Markle in a charity hat, George Zajfen Tournament Tennis For Tots; she wore to shine a spotlight on her friends charity event, through alliance for children’s rights Los Angeles. I’ve tried to buy this one but no idea how so I’ve settled on Lacoste. I like the Lacoste caps, the shape is perfect and nice long brim, I like the golfing shape, (not the snap back or trucker shape) my favourite Lacoste caps is the one with the big croc on the front retail price £37.99.

This hat is no longer available on the Lacoste website. I think it’s an older style so available through lots of other outlets but not directly from Lacoste.

I have loved the Lacoste brand since before the pastel lavender shirts and pale pink and pale blue polo shirts my father purchased and wore on summer holidays in the 1980s. I’ve always loved tennis from the time I first held a racket. I wasn’t particularly sporty and even though I wasn’t very good and lost more points than I won, tennis style has always appealed to me. And I preferred the French take from Lacoste as opposed to the American preppy looks of Ralph Lauren.

I associate Peanuts, Snoopy, Woodstock and Charlie Brown with tennis too. Loads of Charles Schultz iconic cartoons feature the characters in the court so when I saw the peanuts Lacoste collaboration I was inspired by the fun element of the French sport activewear fashion.

The brand has gone from strength to strength with high profile ambassadors from the world of professional Tennis. Djokovic, of course Daniel Medvedev, Bernarda Pera, Grigor Dimitrov, and the newest addition to the roster, this year at the Miami Open, French tennis player Arthur Fils.

Whilst we are still waiting for a high profile girl to represent the brand on court it doesn’t get any bigger than Venus Williams who despite heading up her own activewear brand these days Eleven she teamed up with Lacoste a couple of years ago to deliver a collaboration that is now highly collectible, a new silhouette for the brand created by visionary creative director Louise Trotter

“I am a long-time fan of Lacoste and have always been inspired by the brand’s innovative style, beyond its tennis roots. Louise Trotter is such a visionary and the work she has done as creative director of the House is forward-thinking, inspired and constantly evolving. I am thrilled to be working alongside her as the face of Lacoste’s new silhouette.

Venus Williams

The one thing I am always wary of with shopping for Lacoste there are a lot of fakes about so unless I know where it’s come from I avoid secondhand or recycled.

In the past I would have decided on the green baseball hat and just purchased. Nowadays I only want to support brands I know and love or independents and charities helping not harming and that means for me telling people where things are made and by who.

Lacoste have very clear anti slavery policies on their website.

I wear a lot of leggings, not just for working out, I wear them to work, out and about at the weekends. I am quite sporty, play a bit of tennis too so not unusual for me to pop leggings under my tennis skirt. The reason I bought these cute cropped leggings. I paid about £115.

I’ve tried Lululemon, Alo, Varley and cheaper offerings Bo and Tee, fear of god essentials and adanola quite recently, then Ayda popped up on my radar and I’d bought a pair before doing any hard research.

After the fact I discovered the Ayda brand, launched in May, 2022 is the brainchild of Ayda Field Williams, American actress and wife of former Take that band member, Robbie Williams which explains all the hype and press when they launched.

Fast forward three years and trying a pair and I can see why customers didn’t fall in love and return to buy everything else.

_

I like the colour, the green is amazing. The fabric is nice, but quite sheer. I am pretty toned so not a problem for me however I can see if you were a bit bigger the material could be too flimsy. (Not like Alo that sculpt)

I couldn’t find out a great deal about their sustainability policy, not sure they have one, no mention of supply chain or ethics on their website or in the Forbes article by Angela Lei when the brand launched,

And I am not a prude but if I’d read all the F ing and blinding on the website, before shopping it possibly would have put me off. I don’t get it. Who talks like that?

They are a British brand I think, not 100% sure about that as Ayda is from the USA. The pair I have say made in China.

The Ayda clothes are not inexpensive so my advice, buyer beware. They are the same price point as say a Casel Training legging although don’t have all the technical Performance quality of a brand like that.

I am wearing mine but if I’d paid full retail I’d have been extremely disappointed.

It’s not a music video gets repeated over and over again as the camera’s follow Jennifer Lopez as she attempts to bring together her creative process as an artist, write a new album and then choreograph, perform the music and star in her own self funded movie to somehow try and tell a great love story.

I would say I am a big fan, even way back in the Jenny from the block days I always loved J Lo.

In the movie, I watched to the end but I did feel like ICK, it was slow, a bit cringe. Ben Affleck is in it, the documentary, but very relieved at the end the movie he doesn’t feature.

The movie tracks the writing and performing of the new album, the first for Lopez in years, although it is obvious the strain of the media, the project being misunderstood and her relationship with Affleck, reunited after 20 years and a break up days before a lavish Santa Barbarawedding plan in September, 2003 that never happened.

The film isn’t cohesive, it doesn’t come together in the way I think J Lo would have hoped. It gets a bit confused as it appears it’s about Ben and Jen’s love affair, which doesn’t feel that warm and fuzzy in the edit, more two ships that collided, smashed into each other and just couldn’t pull apart for whatever reason.

Affleck even talks on camera about how uncomfortable he is with his role as the muse in his artist wife’s need to express herself.

We also see J. Lo taking a lot of Criticism about her motives, and the stars she tries to cast to perform alongside her, including Monster in Law co star Jane Fonda, appear reluctant to participate. It’s certainly an uphill struggle when producers tell her the studio backing has pulled out and the 30 million needed to make it even on a shoestring budget Jennifer has to pay for herself to carry on.

I think fans will watch for all the unseen footage as J Lo battles with her demons inside her love story.

If you want to hear the album strangely you don’t find it here. There was a tongue in cheek suggestion: question why would a studio pay J Lo to make a marketing film for her new album. And I guess if she gave you the music, so selling the film by

Director Jason Bergh has been on it’s own merit I guess as a reality documentary drama.

To sum up, and I LOVE J. Lo and all she has achieved I don’t think it packs the punch her talent and creativity warrant.

I haven’t read other reviews. Would I want to listen to the album after watching if I wasn’t already a fan, not sure.
