I decided to wait a while and see what happened before posting this rant. Partly to ensure I could remain fair and objective. In business sometimes people need to be given time for reflection to make the right decision themselves before being punished with an honest online account remembering there are always two sides to every story.

I found Mike N Cube on Google, in about September last year, his website came up no. 1 when I searched for an Adwords expert, no mean feat for the highly competitive keywords. So I immediately assumed he must be doing something right.

When I spoke to him I got a great first impression he was straightforward, not pushy at all, relaxed which I liked, professional and told him all about my company, my needs, my budget and what I was hoping to achieve.

I told him my number one objective was traffic. I also explained the obstacles we’d encountered in the past having insufficient budget to compete bidding for expensive keyword placement. We agreed terms and I transferred £500 (50% of the agreed fee for a 2 month managed campaign) I was excited.

Mike spent a few days getting everything set up and during that time there were a few warning bells. He would ask me questions he already had the answer to and made mistakes with people’s names. I tried to contact him at the weekend and didn’t get a response then he started the campaign but nothing happened.

I’d had experience in the past running Google Ad campaigns myself, not easy to manage and track if you don’t fully understand the platform, (Google are looking to make money too) the reason I sort help from an “expert” in the first place.

After about a week, we’d only actually received 1 click, that’s right one. And it cost £4.

Obviously the campaign wasn’t working. Mike said we needed to run it for longer but I was nervous of blowing my budget and getting nowhere.

I asked we stop the campaign and have a rethink. I also asked for the balance of the deposit to manage the campaign be refunded.

The campaign was stopped but Mike decided to keep all the money.

Some may believe he was within his rights. We had a verbal agreement and I broke it.

But I still think if you’re really fantastic and the very best at your job that’s something you are extremely proud of, so when someone has an issue regarding over promising and underdelivering, you protect your reputation and sort it out, you don’t grab the money and leave things to fester.
