Charlie Black / 22 October 2013 / Categories: Movie and TV Shows, Movie Behind The Candelabra AWARD WORTHY PERFORMANCESIt feels like I waited forever to see this flick on DVD. It was released in May but for some reason it was only in local theatres for a short time and I don't know why.The opening is a bit strange with some choppy editing. I didn't like the set up but once we meet Lee (Liberace) the classical pianist and icon played delectably by Michael Douglas, could be the performance of his career for me you are catapulted into his flamboyant life. The film is adapted from a book by Scott Thorson, Liberace's lover and directed by Steven Soderbergh and begins as the pair meet at one of Liberace's glamorous Las Vegas shows.Michael Douglas is immpecable and is equally as convincing as the maestro behind the piano which surprised me.Matt Damon is superb as Thorson and Rob Lowe, completely unrecognisable behind his prothethic face as plastic surgeon Dr. Jack Startz, worth watching the film just to see that honestly.I really rate this film. A wonderful tribute to the superstar that was Liberace. It is so well done, sensitive and tasteful. I expect to see it hailed at next years award circuit for definite.
