Rails Restaurant

A place you might want to avoid if good food is your thing.

I decided to choose this place to take my business partner for a quick lunch between catching a train back to Leicester from London. I researched their website and also did some research on trip advisor and google, which all seemed fairly positive. The menu looked ok and was reasonable for London, so my expectation was low to begin with. The main reason I love poopsnoop so much is because you cannot rely on any other site to hear from people who are similar to you and your personal taste, to give advice on trying a new restaurants, people or services. Had I been able to read a review from someone with similar likes and dislike's to me, I would have avoided this place like the plague.

Upon arriving, the aesthetics of the building and entrance to Rails was very impressive, it is part of the Great Northern Hotel but beyond that, the rest was in my opinion, very poor. The restaurant layout is awkward and our table was right next to the serving station where the waiters produced orders and bills, so it was not private or quite. The staff looked shabby and appeared inexperienced in their waiting skills. The menu was very small with little to choose from, especially if you are vegan or vegetarian, so I went for the summer salad to start and aubergine pasta for main. The salad was a few green leaf's, some cold peas and endive beans, drenched in what tasted like pure lemon juice, it was not edible, sadly. The aubergine pasta dish was from frozen, half cooked, watery with cold unmelted grated cheese on top, inedible, sadly. I did my best but had to leave most of it. Starving, I went for pudding which was a fruit Sunday, consisting of tinned fruit, and tinned cream, inedible, sadly. The wine was good at least but the service and attention to detail very poor.

I did complain through out the meal in the best way I could without losing my mind and our waiter apologized, offering to take off the service charge and bring us free cups of coffee as compensation, he said it was all he had the power to offer.

Not the best and not what you would expect from a Marriot hotel offering.
