Strictly Come Dancing

What’s the betting?

Will Tess and Claudia mention the amazing Vito Coppola’s masterchef win broadcast 20th September, 2024

My money’s on absolutely definitely.

I for one am not surprised the show lost over a million of its expected audience for the launch according to GB News. The first show people do bail on historically I think because there’s no dancing. I nearly made it 1,000,001 for other reasons.

I would go as far to say I am a super fan, I have watched religiously since the beginning, well almost the beginning I missed Natasha and Brendan’s win and then Jill Halfpenny I think but have seen every one since and at home we always pick our winners before watching anyone dance and have a bit of a competition.

This year has been a bit of a downer to be fair, I don’t want my favourite show to be a place where misogynists reign supreme (I know it’s the BBC, I hear you) but come on. Jimmy Saville, Russell Brand, Hew Edwards, and these are just the stories we know about and then our favourites Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima get dragged into the frame.

I did watch on Saturday but not with the same anticipation or excitement, I had the feeling like I was an idiot for buying in and as soon as the voice started on ITV we turned over. I thought it completely lame and embarrassing Tess Daley and Claudia Winkleman had absolutely nothing in their scripts to address the awks of the last few months. Some comforting words to let us all know we were not complete mugs for tuning into a sham show.

Saturday’s show seemed to me like everyone was on edge, the comedian Chris Mccausland held things together with a few questionable for the BBC, border line risky jokes which Claudia seemed unable to handle in her usual witty way and the usually immaculate Tess couldn’t even be bothered to wash her hair, a big red flag for me.

I don’t know about you but I could feel the tension, a few difficult silences that opera singer Wynne Evans who ironically said he’d have to learn the art of distraction because of his dancing or lack of seemed to be over compensating and monopolising the strictly sofa.

I am sure I’ll be watching next week, I don’t have cable TV and so the other options are limited but I know it’ll never be the main event in our house it once was. I might just find myself banished upstairs with my iPhone and EarPods to watch alone.
