Opened in Venice last year to critical acclaim where it won the Fripesci award for best film.

This movie is cinematic genius on so many levels, notably the acting.

It's one for the thinkers, so sure. Don't be put off by the three line intro. Watch it with an open mind and heart and trust me you will learn a great deal about yourself.

I was astonished it didn't show at the Academy awards, gee, what to they know anyways.

Review: Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Pheonix are both amazing in this powerful look at addiction and how a cult leader played by Hoffman with his own problems, gets inside the mind of a disturbed addict and ex in World War II war vetran played by Pheonix. These two actors work like magic in this brilliant movie which I have now watched 5 times and could watch again many more times! Returning from Navy service Freddie Quell lives through a series of nervous breakdowns when he by chance, very drunk meets a cult leader with a charismatic personality who engages him in exercises to clear his emotions. Quickly freddie becomes deeply involved with the leader and his very powerful cult.
