AS MUCH SIZZLE AS A DAMP SQUIB
I had high hopes for Heartbreaker. I thought the premise unusual and the main stream press seemed to love it. And starring Vanessa Paradis Noce Blanche which she won a Cesar for and Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually and Made In Dagenham) It is the last time I take any notice of the critics "Stylish, funny, woozily romantic and effortlessly sexy" was the strap. uh uh, wasn't this at all.
The best thing about this movie was the backdrop set in the South of France the scenery location shooting was good. The story could have had potential it it hadn't been delivered in such a cheesy almost canned/slapstick way.
The idea centres around a business partnership, a brother and sister and her crazy husband who in James Bond (M) and gadgets style are hired to break up relationships, but only those of people who aren't truly in love. Romain Duris plays Alex, the professional breakup artist decides to take a job to break up the relationship of a young heiress a week before her wedding. His morality and code of business ethics gets pushed aside because he he owes a local chancer money and fears for his safety as he is pursued by a heavy mob.
In the end (spoiler) he ends up with the heiress, I actually switched off before the final credits.
Young kids might like it, it's silly if you know what I mean but there again it's in French so I am not sure who is the audience.
