Description:

To correspond with Sundance London’s location at The O2 in Greenwich, the home of Greenwich Mean Time, entries for the 2013 Short film Competition focused on the concept of time: ‘The Time is Now; a story that is about being immediate and in the moment.’ Submissions between three and five minutes in length were accepted.

The winning entry was selected by two juries either side of the Atlantic. The first, included Kate Kinninmont, Women in Film and Television; Chris Collins, BFI Film Fund; Freddie Gaffney, Ravensbourne; Dave Calhoun, Time Out and director / screenwriter Kat Lo. The second panel organized by Sundance Institute included: John Cooper, Director of the Sundance Film Festival; Trevor Groth, Director of Programming for the Sundance Film Festival; filmmakers Francesca Gregorini and Roger Ross Williams

“The other jurors and I were delighted to find in Best a succinct yet moving story that so cleverly exemplifies the tagline ‘The Time is Now.’ Terrifically framed images as well as stellar performances bring to life a story that impressively manages to be tender, raw, visceral and heartbreaking in under five minutes.”

- Trevor Groth, Sundance Film Festival Director of Programming and jury member

I LEARNED SO MUCH AND THIS FILM MADE ME FEEL

What a brilliant experience Sundance London was. Phew.

Best, the time is now, is such a fantastic and thought provoking film, it’s difficult to explain how so much could be packed into only 5 minutes.

William Oldroyd, the director is completely brilliant and Jothan Annan in the lead gives an amazing performance. The story is simple about two friends confronting their future as one is just about to get married. No surprising for me it took the prize for best short. The judges described the film as tender, visceral, raw and heart breaking. It’s a lot to pack in all in under five minutes, what makes it great, better than great. The framing is so clean and the acting incredible.
