WHAT A DIRE CATASTROPHE
With the exception of chamber music lovers this film would put anyone to sleep.
It was completely dire, depressing, slow and frankly unwatchable. We switched off about half way through.
The cast is packed with talent lead by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christopher Walken and Catherine Keener but even this veteran ensemble could do little with a frankly dull script.
The story, one member of the Quartet is ill and decides it is time to quit. This decision sets off a chain of events amongst the other members and well it wasn't enough to keep me focused.
Actors playing veteran classical musicians in an emsemble and it looking "real" is hard to achieve.
The Late Quartet won't fool anyone who has ever played a musical instrument in the school orchestra unless they have their eyes closed.
