Christian Dior

Designer luxury fashion brand and icon

Christian Dior

Christian Dior, the illustrious couturier who once painted the fashion world with his exquisite tapestries of elegance and sophistication. It is interesting to ponder what Monsieur Dior might think of his beloved brand's place in today's global market.

In the post-war era, Dior emerged as a beacon of French luxury, a symbol of rebirth and opulence with the introduction of the "New Look." His designs, characterized by cinched waists, voluminous skirts, and a celebration of feminine curves, revolutionized women's fashion. The very essence of his creations was steeped in the tradition of French haute couture, crafted meticulously by skilled hands in the heart of Paris.

Now, fast forward to the present day, and we find the fashion industry in a whirlwind of change and commercialization. The business landscape has transformed dramatically since Monsieur Dior's time. Brands are pressured to keep pace with the voracious appetite for new collections and products, often leading them to seek cost-effective production methods to maintain profitability and accessibility. The revelation that the iconic Dior bags are being made in China, a country renowned for its manufacturing prowess, yet often scrutinized for its labour practices, is a topic that indeed stirs mixed emotions among connoisseurs of luxury.

Imagine Monsieur Dior, dressed in his impeccable tailored suit, strolling through the bustling streets of today's Paris, only to discover that his legacy is now intertwined with the global supply chain. He might be torn between the need to evolve with the times and the nostalgic longing for the days when luxury was synonymous with exclusivity and uncompromising craftsmanship.

The allegations of using cheap labour and maintaining high price tags can indeed cast a shadow on the brand's prestige. Yet, one could argue that the artistry and innovation behind Dior's designs remain as vibrant as ever, even if the physical creation of the bags has shifted continents. After all, the brand's value lies not just in the hands that construct the garments but also in the creative minds that conceive them and the storied heritage that fuels their allure. I am truly put off by the market being over saturated with the Dior logo draped on every Tom Dick and Harry's arm, especially if they are made in China or somewhere overseas for next to nothing. I love Dior, the old days, when it was a real delight and a privilege to pay homage to a creative genius who made beautiful exclusive designs, we could all wear and feel unique.

Come on Dior, lets keep it ethical, real and not about saturating the market with goods one cannot distinguish between what is real or fake!
