Life Of Pi

Life Of Pi

The novel was rejected by at least five London publishing houses[1] before being accepted by Knopf Canada, which published it in September 2001. The UK edition won the Man Booker Prize for Fiction the following year. It was also chosen for CBC Radio's Canada Reads 2003, where it was championed by author Nancy Lee. The French translation, L'histoire de Pi, was chosen in the French version of the contest, Le combat des livres, where it was championed by Louise Forestier. The novel won the 2003 Boeke Prize, a South African novel award. In 2004, it won the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature in Best Adult Fiction for years 2001–2003. In 2012 it was adapted into a theatrical feature film.

EVERYONE YOUNG OR OLD SHOULD READ THIS

It's not surprising Disney made this story into a film, which I haven't yet seen but cannot wait if the reviews are anything to go by.

This is the kind of book that comes along once in a decade that just connects the dots, (and us as humans) in so many different ways.

It is hard to describe because when you try to tell people what it about, (an Indian boy and a tiger stranded together in a lifeboat) and yes that is pretty much for the whole novel it sounds really dull and uninspiring.

Anyway think the complete reverse. The writing is magical, gripping, extremely hilarious in places, poignant and most powerfully has the ability to completely change the way you think about virtually everything.

I am usually disappointed if I read the book first and then see the film but I think this is one book, if you are going to read it, do so before being lead by the director Ang Lee's interpretation. (Which I'm sure wil be magnificient.....I'll keep you posted.)

What’s important to me? I am not flash or fancy. I am a little bit chubby and my hair, nails, etc are usually a mess. I prefer to be comfortable than dressed up that said I work hard, earn a decent amount of money I like to spend on overseas travel and collecting vintage jewellery which I buy and don’t wear. I am happier tracking in South America or on safari exploring animal sanctuaries and nature reserves across Africa where I have visited on five different occasions, Ghana, Senegal in West Africa, South Africa and Sudan and Kenya on the East coast. I would love to visit Victoria falls and see the Gorillas in Uganda. I am a vegetarian and don’t smoke but enjoy a glass of decent wine and love tasting local wine when I travel.
