When your colour goes too dark

About a year ago I had a hair disaster. I went to a new stylist for my colour and when I left the salon the root was way too dark for the rest of my hair, which is quite long.

After dying hair too dark I discovered it is almost impossible to correct. I didn’t return to the salon, there was nothing they could do without bleaching, which I didn’t want to do.

I read online a clarifying shampoo can help strip off fade unwanted dark colour so I bit the bullet and bought Detox Dynamo from Noughty. I am not a shampoo expert. I chose this one because 1. At £7.99 it wasn’t too expensive and 2. It is a vegan product, no parabens, palm oil and cruelty free.

It does say to use a stripping shampoo like this one in between regular washes, maybe once a month to prevent product build up in the hair. Using a product like this too much your hair can end up dry, they advise.

I tried a combo of grow out and wash out over 5 to 6 weeks which did leave me quite a big root.

I used the detox dynamo every week for 5 weeks and it did tone down the dark colour, not massively, but I could see it wouldn’t be wise to use it all the time.

The application is cold and herbal, like an astringent, you feel the tingle which is nice and smells of peppermint so if you get your stylist to use it you get an aromatherapy experience.

If you like that squeaky clean hair feeling this is a nice inexpensive product to bring back shine and weightlessness to lack lustre hair.

And if you’ve got a bad dye job that needs toning down and you don’t want the bleach option I managed to recover my colour (with the help of my hairdresser) in about 6 weeks.

I am excited to try these two new to me products based on the experience with Detox Dynamo in the purple tube.
