The Peace Poppy

The Peace Poppy

OMG people are so ignorant. Do one thing different like wear a white poppy instead of a red one and be prepared to get killed.

Figuratively speaking.

I am only here ranting because I heard some army guy on the news today trying to trash the white poppy and effectively all he could say in the end is have your white poppy for peace any day except November 11th and let us keep our red poppy for war on that day please.

It’s tradition. If like all the other under 25s around me you could just go think about how what you are saying doesn’t make any sense.

The white poppy is not new it’s been around for almost 100 years. It’s the symbol of remberance for people who think war is wrong and a really bad thing.

My mum got me one when I was a kid maybe 8 or 9 and since then I’ve actually never seen one for sale on the streets in London like the red ones, I support the British Legion and the work they do helping rebuilding injured soldiers lives, but choose to wear the white poppy instead.

I wanted to say when a few of us at uni went out wearing the white poppies we got hassled so badly we had to take them off.

When I saw the news segment and read the 247 comments, I had to write this.

Lord Richard Dannatt, a retired senior British army officer and member of the House of Lords on GB news comdemned sales of the white poppy as “cynical” and accused the PPU of attempting to hijack the more traditional remembrance celebration.

Let’s just carry on killing each other shall we?
