DON'T LET MEDIOCRE REVIEWS PUT YOU OFF
I think John Hannah is a great actor but I was put off by the critics, particularly the Scottish ones when this film first came out back in January.
Not being Scottish myself the subtle expected nuances in accents from Scottish audiences from Edinburgh to Glasgow were lost on me so didn't affect the films impact.
I really enjoyed it. It was good to see some faces on screen I hadn't seen before like Martin Compston in the role of Ellis. I think he captured really well how life sometimes hands us the cards and we must play them as best we can.
I loved seeing Rita Tushingham back on screen as the wife of mob boss Arthur Thompson, she's pretty scary and Stephen McCole who plays Junior Thompson an out of control, cocaine sniffing wild card is one to watch, a very convincing and gritty performance.
