Hollywood Bowl

THE BEST OF LA FOR MUSIC LOVERS

I once saw a little novelty box of cards, 50 things you should see once before you die. The Hollywood Bowl didn't make the cut which to my mind was a mistake as I cannot think of anywhere in the world quite like it for music lovers.

It is a large tiered amphitheater located off N. Highland set in Hollywood in a kind of canyon thats lends itself to the most wonderful accoustics. I went to see Josh Grogan perform for the 4th last week and as usual we had a wonderful night. There is a wide program every year to suit every taste and budget. I've sat up in the Gods, right at the back for as little as $2 with wine, cheese and crackers and had a posh picnic in one of the orchestra boxes where you can pay over the odds, sometimes 100 bucks or more for popular artists.

The real beauty of the Hollywood Bowl is it doesn't matter where you are to hear the music and soak in the excitement and ambiance and of course, experience the spectacular post show fireworks the Bowl is so well known for. Over the years I have seen Hollywood veteran Ann Margret perform, soprano Charlotte Church, Bob Dylan and watched tribute shows to Henry Mancini, Blake Edwards and countless visiting muscians and conductors usually accompanied by our very own LA Philharmonic.

Everyone should go at least once. You will never forget the whole experience.
