17 October 2024 Sahara Mara 49 Food & Drink, Restaurants IVY ASIA Kings Road, Chelsea It’s like theatre. I don’t think there’s a person on the planet young and old alike who wouldn’t be enthralled, mesmerised by the visuals in the restaurant from the green glass through the looking glass floor to the massive sumo art and Japanese warrior statues in full regalia. For an amateur photographer there’s plenty to snap and observe before you even think about ordering anything to eat.My friends and I love popping in on a Saturday afternoon, you used to have to book as it would get very busy but the last few times I have been, we didn’t book and no problems getting a table. They really do things well here, the waiters are very smart in bright embroidered waistcoats and they are super professional, really good invisible service. The crowd is a mixture, young families, girls like us, older couples, international, you get all types in here, even business men. It’s not touristy though which I prefer. Each sushi plate is about £10 so we usually order 2 different plates each and then split everything to keep the bill under £25 each. All the food is made fresh to order so it comes in a random way which makes it more fun. The vegetable tempura is amazing, crispy and light and my favourite thing of all is the spicy tomato avocado salad which is the perfect balance for me of sweet light fresh tomatoes with a major kick. For anyone who likes a swanky cocktail they have a full bar. You can even eat at the bar if you’d like. When it’s busy it’s a real scene in here. Magical and out of this world.
