Plant Kitchen

Vegan ready meals from M&S

I'm truly sorry to say that my experience with Plant Kitchen from Marks & Spencer didn't hit the spot. It's always a bit of a downer when you anticipate a culinary delight but your expectations aren't met, especially when you are eagerly anticipating a delightful vegan treat from a brand that's known for its quality offerings.

I could paint a picture of what could have been, a scrumptious microwave food adventure, if only they had got some real vegans to create the menu for them. Picture this: you're craving something hearty yet guilt-free, something that whispers "indulgence" without screaming "extra work." You spot Plant Kitchen in the vegan aisle, beckoning with promises of a restaurant-worthy meal in mere minutes. The vibrant packaging sings with the allure of exotic spices and fresh ingredients, all wrapped up in a vegan embrace. You imagine the symphony of flavours that will dance on your taste buds, as you pop it into the microwave, eager for the crescendo of a satisfying meal but sadly, it is just all in the imagination because it tastes like over processed, over salted food you would not give to a healthy vegan.

The selection in my opinion and the promised flavours are as bland as a cardboard cut out of the tantalizing images you see on the packaging. The textures, oh the textures! Where are the crunchy bits and the tender morsels that were supposed to delight your taste buds? Instead, everything seems to have been homogenized into a sad, soggy mess. The seasoning is either playing hide and seek or has gone on a permanent vacation, leaving the dish with the personality of a boiled potato lost in lumpy custard. Perhaps I am being a bit cruel and fussy here but I do long for the day when the rest of the world are so impressed with plant based food that everyone gives up eating meat, M&S have a long way to go to help save the planet.
