Borough Market

London Markets on a Sunday

Personally I think this is London’s finest food market. I just read about the impeding closure of Smithfield Market and Billingsgate Market and it left a pit in my stomach and forced me to put pen to paper about Borough Market, just over London Bridge, a place I love.

I am often in the City for business so it’s a quick walk 10 minute over London Bridge for me to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the market, all the smells and the faces I have come to know on my favourite stalls.

With over 100 hand picked traders to choose from it’s a one stop

Shop for wine, meats, cheeses, produce if you are the discerning chef, I like to cook but I like to eat more and here there is an internatiomal array of expertise, each person carefully selected by the market team to add to the world class group of foodies that have a street food offering.

There’s no smoking which is fair enough I suppose, outside though and pouches dogs are very welcome on a lead or carried.

The Greek gyros from Agora are possibly the best I’ve tasted outside Greece and Padre serves up Mexican to compete in California so if you are passing, stop by.

Keep out bustling market traditions alive. Hang out in the Burlington Arcade, I do but during the holiday season I always get down the market with my few hundred quid Asda spent. I’ll be spending a little bit more with a little less convenience and soaking up the atmosphere at the market, homemade hot chocolate in hand, slinging a prickly homemade wreath over my shoulder and dragging a Christmas tree, not, the staff are so helpful they’ll deliver your Christmas to your door, for a fee of course.
