The best hotel on the Cote D’ Azur

The cote D’azur has long been a firm favourite destination. I have been involved in film finance for over 20 years so have been lucky enough to visit Eden Roc, quite a few times over the last 35 years.

First things first, get ready for a wallet ectomy, this is the kind of place if you have to ask the price you can’t afford it. I met the son of the King of Sweden in the restroom.

Set on a high precipis above the Mediterranean Sea this Palladian style expansive villa is super impressive as you arrive and that’s just the back.

Be prepared to be transported into luxury in a whole new level from the gracious service, quiet ambience, casual cool charm and eye watering bills. They have a group of private secluded villas, like you’ll find at the Beverly Hills Hotel or the Pennisula Hotel Beverly Hills if you are looking to be completely incognito.

I returned this year for lunch with friends and just to give you an idea the French fries were €30.

The hotel shop is other worldly, don’t expect sunscreen and cigarettes, more like beautiful beach wear and shorts from Bamford and custom fragrances from Dior.

If you cannot think about a night in paradise rooms start in high season around €2500 per night, go for lunch, sip an orange juice on the terrace, and rub shoulders with the hui polough. I just got rates for a minimum two night stay in October when the weather is not super warm for €1300 per night in a traditional room, translates as the cheapest.

I would recommend anyone enjoying the ambience at Eden Roc even if it’s only for an afternoon, best time for celebrity spotting if that’s your thing; first week in May when the Cannes Film Festival takes over or the Monaco Grand Prix when getting a room is virtually impossible.
