Just because it’s Mayfair doesn’t mean the food is going to taste great or you’ll be welcomed with open arms.
When you read the website Delfino sounds like absolute magic. A place you’d definitely want to experience if you’ve never been before. I was completely sold.
I was on Grosvenor Square in Mayfair, it was 4.30pm, we’d missed lunch, had some time to kill and fancied a quick New York Style Pizza. I popped New York Style Pizza Grosvenor Square in Google and Delfinos around the corner came up first, what looked like a gorgeous Italian restaurant established in 1953.
It was raining so we decided to drive to Delfinos on Mount St knowing there’d be plenty of parking outside and we wouldn’t have to walk far.
We were going to eat in but we didn’t have a reservation and the welcome we received was lukewarm warm so we decided on pizza to go instead.
The restaurant was pretty busy not full but busy so maybe it was just an off day for the staff. We felt a bit uncomfortable whilst we waited. IT wasn’t the friendliest of places. The only person who actually managed a smile was the chef who did give us a “Ciao” as we left.
The pizza sadly, which we ate in the hotel, was as mediocre as the reception, the crust was a bit soggy and the pre cooked peppers and mushroom were wet instead of crunchy, possibly out of a jar so disappointing for the £20.00 price tag.
It did say on the menu this particular pizza had chilli and it was HOT, HOT, HOT so if you like spicy then they do deliver here. Although probably this level of heat would be too much for most. Fair warning.
It’s cute little place in a great location, and like I say I could have hit on a bad day. Would I go back and give them another chance, well the images online are absolutely fantastic so maybe if I was passing, starving and I was out of other options. I’d probably sit down though, instead of take out. Maybe the service is better if you make a reservation.
