I recently visited Dine India, and while I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, the restaurant was unusually quiet—a stark reminder of how the rising cost of living is affecting even long-established favourites. I had not been here for 15 years, so my expectations were high from amazing memories of a time gone by when it was my local.
Dine India, a staple since 1999, has built a well-deserved reputation and loyal customer base over the years. It has consistently been recognized by local press and voted as one of the best restaurants in Leicestershire, and it’s easy to see why—the food is delicious, expertly prepared, and full of authentic flavours.
Despite its quiet atmosphere during my visit, the restaurant still maintains the warm, inviting environment that has kept it thriving for decades. It’s a testament to its enduring quality and popularity, even as external pressures impact the industry. I noticed the décor was a little tired and beware they only serve house wine which seems to make sense when people are pushed for money to spend. Some of the same staff where still there smiling and very happy to see me back so this was a pleasure. The menu offer good vegan and vegetarian options and the value for money was unbelievable which made up for the lack of atmosphere.
If you’re looking for a classic Indian dining experience with excellent food and a friendly atmosphere, Dine India remains a must-visit—just be aware that these quieter times reflect the broader challenges restaurants are currently facing.
