You may not know but luxury French design house Lanvin also owns quite a few other luxury brands like Wolford and Italian shoe brand Sergio Rossi and whilst remaining the oldest French couture house still in existence the Lanvin name was bought out in 2018 by Shanghai based Chinese trading firm Fosun International.

When you enter the exquisite and I mean exquisite store on the corner of Mount St and Berkeley Square smack bang next to Oscar De La Renta, you are catapulted into another quiet world of loveliness at eye watering prices although the last few days of Lanvin ready to wear 50% off and Lab by Future sale is happening right now online.

For me nothing beats the instore experience. I’ve been in a few times however not without my parents. Lanvin and Celine are historically my mother’s favourites.

That said she is reserving judgement whether she will remain brand loyal now it’s in Chinese ownership. I read in Vogue Business “It’s a brand with big heritage and still strong awareness. These are two important ingredients for a relaunch but it’s all a matter of execution: having a great aesthetic vision, communicating the brand values in a compelling marketing way using the digital channel, and putting in place an appropriate distribution structure.

Communicating brand values could be challenging in a tough market with plummeting sales. It will be interesting to see if this lovely brand survives in the long term.

The Lanvin store on Mount St is not the kind of place you can meander in, have a browse with no intention of shopping and waltz out, at least not more than once, the security are subtle yet ever present.

Even when items are on sale a T shirt is going to set you back £250 so I usually keep my purchase to a gorgeous accessory, 100% wool, Made in Italy.
