Shelter Boutique Primrose Hill, is not just my favourite Charity shop in the UK, it is also a charity close to my own heart, having experienced a short period myself without a home. This Shelter Boutique is well run by Marina the manager and Herbie her assistant, both truly experienced in making someone else's designer cast offs look brand new to you. The rails are always full of beautifully curated, colour co-ordinated high-end designer pieces, perfectly pressed and ready to buy. It is not cheap in there because the donated by wealthy benefactors who support this shop, truly care about what they hand over.
Shelter has been fighting since 1966 and will not give up until everyone has access to a safe, secure, and reasonably priced place to live.
In response to the severe housing problem facing the nation, they were established in 1966 by founder chairman Bruce Kenrick, who collaborated with political activist Des Wilson, who later served as Shelter's first director. They, together with co-founders Lewis Waddilove, Rev. Eammon Casey, David Reid, and Edwin Barker, had the idea to create a single organisation to speak for the millions of "hidden homeless" who reside in congested slums. Shelter was this organisation.
The secret to good charity shopping, something today I am an expert at, is going to affluent areas like Primrose Hill or St Johns Wood because obviously the donations are better quality but remember, it will be unlike other charity shops in terms of what you will have to pay. In Shelter, I have found Chanel, Hermes and Dior plus many quality designer brands I have never heard of but so glad to come across. It is often a great place to discover and learn about the high-end fashion brands you might never have heard about.
Lets all recycle, support and donate to this amazing charity and keep them doing their good work! Shop until you drop, buy new and the joke is on you!
