I'm being really picky over the Swedish names and places, I just could not think of anything else I didn't like about it. Not only is it a gripping, page turner of a thriller but the thing that makes it so special in my mind is the unbelievably real and deep characters in the story. Lisbeth Salander is incredible, what a female role model, we rarely see women portrayed like this these days when everything has to be fluffy. This story is gritty and very dark in places, a real reminder of how horrible the world is when we are not sugaring over the cracks with love songs and rom coms. I learnt a lot about the injustices people have to face even in a progressive society like Sweden. This book is very special, (probably why it's sold over 20 million copies) but if you haven't read it, I cannot recommend it enough even if you don't really like thrillers/crime dramas, this one offers so much more. It's such a shame Mr. Larsson never got to see the success of his story.
