For people less interested in fashion and more interested in psychology and human nature this format is very clever, the edit also goes a long way to show how players jump to unfounded conclusion, get on the right track and don’t realise their simple logic is correct, miss the glaringly obvious and like sheep all follow over the cliff when someone speaks up loudly enough.

The bleeding obvious for the viewer, the quiet ones, James Acaster playing a blinder as a recruited traitor gained everyone’s trust as a sure thing faithful at the beginning and that is set in the minds of the group.

The nature of the game is to route out the Traitors, 3 people hidden amongst the larger group of faithfuls with everyone declaring their allegiance to the group as a faithful. Of course the Traitors are lying. Each night at a round table gathering, the group air their thoughts and opinions and then vote as a group who is the next to be expelled from game. The idea is to catch the Traitors but sadly the faithfuls fall one by one as human nature means everyone (including the clever traitors) follow the pack.

I didn’t watch the first celebrity traitor series that put Jonathan Ross and Alan Carr in the Celebrity Traitor Cloaks, two episodes in I gave up but this year the group has been better cast, Michael Sheen, Jerry Hall and Richard E Grant the star power leading men and lady, with comedians, Joe Lycett, Rome’s Ranganathan, Miranda Hart and Rob Beckett lightening the mood and young sleuth actors, Myha’la, Bella Ramsay and Sebastian Croft adding to the dynamic with brave suggestions and theories.

Bella was offed early for her eagerness to catch a traitor, a trait that can serve you well as a faithful at the round table but a quality that gives the traitors the jitters and makes you vulnerable to murder without a shield or recruitment to the traitors gang, what happened to James Acaster early on in the game.

The numbers are dwindling and the game is hotting up now, the traitors are being challenged more and more having to murder in plain site and being asked to complete exposing tasks in missions to collect prize money for the group pot.

If you are interested in human psychology this is one to binge watch. You only get two episodes a week but as the eight episode aired on BBC 1 this evening it’s a great way to spend a few hours sleuthing, well screaming at the telly as the players ignore the people Maya Jama especially who contributes very little in terms of theories but seems to have secured herself in her fellow players minds as a definite faithful when she has in fact been a Traitor from the very beginning.
