It’s not a coffee shop, it’s an ice cream gelato shop, a gelaterie, if that’s even a word in the beautiful Marina setting of popular tourist resort Vilamoura in Portugal.
It’s funny I don’t think I’ve ever been sold on a place by the hilarious creative staff documentation life working in an ice cream shop on social media, I don’t know their names but definitely their faces, the blonde girl plays the lead character in most of the skits and the middle aged bloke, who seems like the manager also features a lot, plus the brown haired really pretty one. I know them all by sight. The staff at Gran Sorvete have created a reality advertising story people come back to for the latest episode instalment, at least I do.
I feel like I know them which when I finally made it to Portugal for a few days this summer of course a visit to Gran Sorvete was on my agenda. I almost hoped I would get to feature in one of their films like Coronation street baddie, actor Wil Mellor a few months ago.
The Gran Sorvete cafe is probably the prettiest and Instagram worthy gelato shop I’ve ever been to. Decorated in wall to wall flowers in the perfect spot over looking the yachts moored in the Marina I visited at sunset which I couldn’t imagine a better time to go and sample the absolutely delicious artisan Italian Gelato.
It was so amazing to actually go and meet the team who were equally passionate about their products and customers in person, as portrayed in their clips. They loved it I was a fan of theirs on social media before ever becoming a customer and were blown away I came especially to see them and taste the ice cream.
For any business looking to build an audience on Instagram or TikTok these funny clever inspirational people have made every day life in a gelato shop into an online sitcom with an international audience.
It doesn’t hurt that the product and the place are also out of this world but when you are competing in a crowded ice cream space Gran Sorvete know how to stand out.
I just wish they had one in the UK but somehow I guess it probably wouldn’t be the same without the contrast of the very glamourous location and the grind of running an outdoor kiosk and selling ice cream all day.
Kudos to everyone at Gran Sorvete who have embodied everything La Dolce Vita represents and made being part of their small brand experience an absolute pleasure, more so than eating delicious ice cream could ever deliver.
Gran Sorvete is a memory and only authentic people can create that.
