Last stylish restaurant in town
When you walk into San Carlos in Leicester, UK you feel like you are somewhere else. There is no where like it in Leicester. The standing up straight waiting staff in smart ties and pressed waistcoats makes you feel more like London than Leicester it has to be said.
The marinated grilled vegetable starter with a balsamic glaze was lip licking tasty and the bruschetta, the tomatoes were a deep red in colour and the basil and garlic and glistening olive oil made this simple traditional combo sing.
We had pasta which is always cooked el dente and Italian restaurant that knows what it does really well.
It was pretty empty for a Saturday lunch time which did give it a bit of a sad feel even though the staff worked hard to keep the energy up. It’s a big space to fill when you’ve only got a few customers.
I actually had no idea this restaurant is part of a larger chain so not surprising I like it, The Flying Pizza is Roundhay Leeds has long been a family favourite 30 years or more and more recently I’ve been going to Fumo in Selfridges in Birmingham for a light bite when out shopping.
At San Carlo Leicester we had 2 starters, two starter size pasta plates which weren’t massive but enough, one wine, one cocktail and the bill was £50. Service is included but no complaints there.
Special restaurant I hope more people support, definitely won’t be long with the handful of tables on a busy weekend if not, and then there will be nowhere like this to eat in the centre of Leicester.
