Baja Sharkeez

On highland Ave, Manhattan Beach, CA

When I first moved to Southern California I lived at the beach in Manhattan, first in a small apartment on 23rd st and Highland Ave and then we moved to an apartment closer to Rosecrans actually on Highland, with views facing the ocean so Baja Sharkeez (originally Sharkeys) was our very first fish taco hang out. I love their quesadillas too.

This restaurant is not fancy. It’s the perfect dive bar for a pitcher of beer after volleyball or getting together with friends for binge watching your favourite show or just watching a game.

The decor is Baja inspired, colourful art and memorabilia adorn the walls creating a lively fun up beat atmosphere. The crowd is usually 20 somethings, that’s the beach, mainly rentals for students, surfers and young professionals.

Whether you are in the mood for a cheeky cocktail or a delicious quesadilla it’s the best casual sit down spot in the neighbourhood.

Since it opened over 25 years ago now it’s become a favourite amongst the residents and the brand has expanded to include 4 other locations, Hermosa Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Santa Barbara.

Even though I live on the Westside now I still love this restaurant and especially when friends visit from out of town and we enjoy a stroll on the strand or a day at the beach we always finish off with the fish tacos, the mahi mahi is always super fresh; the guacamole and homemade salsa I’ve been addicted to for years.
