Corinthia Hotel

My favourite London hotel these days

Corinthia Hotel

Hotels around the world are fighting for every single customer in a very tough market. You only have to search the most prestigious luxury properties around the world, Paris, London, New York to see properties like the Corinthia under cutting the travel sales booking platforms like Booking.com and Expedia to offer the very best deals direct to the customers from their website. When your offering is the best, customers will lean towards the cheapest price so why pay an affiliate commission when you can sell direct to the consumer. I get it. I’ve been booking hotels direct for years.

I always find it’s how to best build a relationship with the hotels you want to keep returning to and the Corinthia London is one such property. It’s a relatively new property on London’s famous Whitehall close to the embankment (I’d guess less than 15 years old) so great location for Trafagular square, the river and the National Gallary and the Tate.

I love the florist, FlowerBX, a certified B corporation and always shop there, even when not booked into the hotel, it rivals the flowers in the Bel Air Hotel, Beverley Hills which is just incidentally, where I met the now entertainment director at the Corinthia, Anthony Rush.

There’s been a hotel on the site since 1885, The Metropole London but the new Corinthia didn’t open until 2011.

The current hotel manager is Thomas Koch, who used to be the general manager at Claridges and the main restaurant is where you’ll find Tom Kerridge cooking up a storm.

The type of food is meat, and potatoes, I’d say quintessentially British, hearty faire for big appetites, famous for his steaks and locally sourced fresh produce. It’s not really ladies who lunch but they do a special afternoon tea service, that’s not as stiff as say the Ritz or Claridges. This is a younger crowd I like even though I am not younger.

The Corinthia has also done a few interesting pop up shopping experiences including made in UK ceramics Feldspar.

It’s not the most expensive for London luxury. Another reason to love the Corinthia you’ll always find their best rates on their own website not in booking and travel platforms.

It goes along with their ethos of nurturing lasting relationships with their guests. The thing that keeps me coming back and incidentally the best nail files in the rooms. They last and last.

Everything at the Corinthia is subtle and personal, exactly how I like things.
