It’s been almost 20 years since I tasted my last Corona. When I gave up drinking and left California simultaneously I left behind my favourite beach refresher, a bottle of Corona Extra with a lime pulled from a battered cooler carried to the ocean edge, the only comfort knowing it would be so much lighter on the way back.
When I saw the marketing fridge in my local supermarket full of Corona cero, the 0% alcohol free version saying buy me right by the door as I exited I immediately picked up a four pack and returned to the till to pay. They cost me £6.00 which I thought was a lot for four beers but hey I am out of touch. I haven’t bought beer for a very long time. I’ve tried a few of the other 0% options here and there but none tasted good enough for me to become a regular customer.
Until I tasted the corona cero and even without the lime, the sunshine and the ocean beckoning I was right back on the beach.
The taste was nostalgic and to be honest tasted exactly the same as the Corona Extra I remembered, light, citrusy, not too fizzy (a problem with other zero version like Peroni, too gassy) It was honestly absolutely perfect.
I even noticed on my four pack a qr code on every cap with a chance to win something. I was so impressed with the beer the campaign got me engaged and I did try to scan the code, It didn’t work but hey, it made me then go to the Corona website which takes you away literally.
They have a whole globally beach party happening on line where people are rating the best beaches to visit (and sip Corona) around the globe.
And also a whole save our oceans campaign which also engaged me and I am very impressed to see the Corona brand and its customers caring about.
Forget Ay Caramba, BART Simpson, I say Hi Corona.
Everything about this zero alcohol tipple is absolutely perfect for me.
I’ve drank two and I’ve got a couple of four packs and a lime on my shopping list.
It took almost twenty years, a move half way around the world and a massive lifestyle change but this loyal customer is back.
