Fait Maison offers a set afternoon tea offering and an à la carte menu from renowned chef, creative director and owner, Yvonne Osman known as Om Waleed to followers and friends.
Few places look as pretty and inviting as Fait Maison. It has a great deal of curbside appeal located on Berkeley st just up from the 1 Hotel close to Green Park Tube and just off Berkeley Square when we turned up for a special occasion afternoon tea experience booked online at £35.00 per person plus compulsory 12.5% service charge we were made aware of when we booked.
When you get inside the Middle Eastern influence is apparent, the prices are extortionate the customers, when I visited were mainly ladies gracefully sipping tea. The food I thought a little underwhelming, we had the set afternoon tea offering billed as a luxury experience, finger sandwiches, a couple of cakes and a pot of tea and the bill was an eye watering £100.
Chef Om Waleed’s à la carte menu is a mix of omelettes, sandwiches, fresh salads and Spanish tortilla but it’s the decor of pinks and eggshell blues that provide the perfect setting for ladies in black to enjoy a graceful refined afternoon tea. It was presented absolutely beautifully on cakes stands and toile de jouy pottery.
The silk flowers on every table were a highlight, they looked really good except when you go to smell them you realise they are artificial. It is a bit like a set, all done for a great Instagram shot but not really that lux actually and get ready for 12.5% service charge to be added to your bill. For people who like to tip for excellent service they make the decision for you at Fait Maison, something that unashamedly is declared clearly on their website.
When we went the service was OK and we would have tipped 15-20% so they did themselves out of a nice gratuity from us. I’ve read reviews online from people that didn’t have the best experience, perhaps why they charge service as to be fair a lot of places do especially around Mayfair. I think you can ask for it to be removed but I wouldn’t fancy your chances getting out of there without bad feeling if you did that. I got the sense like in the US you’d be expected to explain yourself if you didn’t feel the service was up to scratch and could end up in a confrontation you wouldn’t have wished for.
We smiled, paid and left.
Would I return probably not but for me that would be more because the place is halal, I didn’t know that before I went and the vegetarian and vegan options were limited. Although Fait Maison do advise customers to inform them of dietary requirements at the time of booking something we didn’t actually do.
I think many people would get a great deal of pleasure from the visual experience and if you love taking pictures this is the perfect spot for that. I think it would be a great choice for a sweet sixteen tea party or younger people more excited about the visual than the food or service. Fait Maison offers theatre and a visual feast in prime London real estate venue, steps away from the Ritz Hotel on Piccadilly.
