My Mum loves lunch at Daphnes and having a nose in Chanel both on Draycott Avenue. Me on the other hand shop secondhand and vintage, and my Mum has just given me a few things, quite expensive things I won’t wear and wanted to sell.
So we decided to check out this consignment shop for two reasons.
I had never been to Loop Generation and as we were passing by after lunch we went in to have a snoop around.
First thing to say is Leander Rebello a fashion stylist on Instagram who moonlights in retail at Loop Generation couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful, really knowledgeable about the stock and gave us the low down how to sell with Loop Generations, the costs commissions and how it all works.
First of all you have to message the team on Instagram or What’s App, with images of the items you want to sell and they will decide if they can help. They mostly stock high end designer pieces, not high st. From what we could see they have quite a lot of glamour and occasion wear, contemporary brands like Me and Em, Burberry and Balenciaga are downstairs, upstairs you’ll find more couture brands like Chanel and Balmain, Prada and Miu Miu. All the bags, accessories and shoes are upstairs and if you like Chanel bags they had a really large selection when we visited although not many classics, black, tan, navy, quite a few in random colours and styles.
It’s a big shop with lots to look at so take your time, we didn’t try on but we did take a peak at the changing rooms and they are spacious and quite luxurious with loads of mirrors. Theresa is quite a lot of security guards so we did feel a bit uncomfortable browsing like we were being watched, and I guess we were as they didn’t want the expensive kit going walkies without being paid for. It’s clearly a problem.
The shop is packed with stock and mainly glam occasion wear, they do have a bit of ready to wear work clothes but if you are looking for sweats, loungewear, jumpers, leggings, T shirts, street wear this is not your place. There seemed a bit of a disconnect for me, it felt like more a place for women my Mum’s age except she doesn’t really buy that much secondhand and me who shops secondhand all the time, the clothes felt a bit glitzy for my wardrobe. Loved the bags and shoes though.
My Mum bought a couple of things I am sure she won’t wear, she like to shop, nothing for me though. Downstairs I did see items as low as £20 or £30 so definitely some affordable pieces. And they did have a great menswear section downstairs too I told Reg about. Upstairs the prices are much higher ranging upwards of a couple of hundred pounds to a few thousand depending on the particular item. A well worn Balmain blazer was around the £500 which wasn’t bad I thought. A black Chanel jacket and eye watering £3250.
In this market if I can recoup a few quid on some of my Mum’s expensive things I won’t wear I’d be really happy so I will be photographing a few pieces and sending them over to see if they make the “Loop Generation” grade.
Thanks Loop Generation. If you want to send them over some pictures the what’s app number is +44 7704 663856 and if you go into store ask for Leander, I am sure he’ll be happy to help you.
