Hermes Les Jardins Perfume Series

This set of fragrances from Hermes really float my boat, all different yet all the same, I know that doesn’t make sense. When I say all the same I mean all to my taste. Which makes it hard when deciding which to choose.

The fragrances in the series are, Le Jardin de Monsieur Li, Un Jardins sur le nil, (inspired by Egypt and the river Nile) un Jardin sur le toit (based on the famous roof garden at the Hermes store in Paris) Un Jardin en Mediterranee, Un Jardin a Cythere and Un Jardin sur la Lagune.

The only two I haven’t bought are La Lagune (browny red bottle) and the un Jardin a cythere, in a yellow bottle but I’ve tried them and would wear them. I actually love them all which at £118 for 100ml makes it all the more difficult to choose.

I think if I was forced to choose my favourite it would be Un Jardin sur le toit, closely followed by Un Jardin sur le nil and Un Jardin en mediterranee. All are beautiful, wearable and the simple bottle design from Fred Rawler inspired from the original lanterns found on early horse drawn carriages make them impossible to throw away long after the last squirt of fresh stylish fragrant drops evaporate.

Perfume is difficult to gift as it’s so personal. However I think you could give anyone of these Unique scents to any woman for every day and she’d be delighted. Not as flowery as say Jo Malone, or Floris, and not as overpowering as Creed or Van Cleef these Hermes classics sit right in the middle of absolute universal enduring good taste.

They are the type of fragrances that whisper rather than shout. They are exotic but weirdly comforting and basic. They combine the sensibility of every day with the most arousing and stimulating natural fragrance combination. The skill of the mixologist the perfumer the nose enduring and passed down for centuries of women.
