The first time I visited, I thought what a beautiful shop. It’s clear someone with a great passion for food has curated the offering. It’s international for sure and whilst not supermarket prices, expect to pay a premium for specialty imports like aged balsamic vinegar and family pressed olive oil. The array of meats and cheeses is as good as I’ve seen in any traditional New York Italian deli, every kind of pastrami and peppery sausages, the perfect anti pasta appetizers, homemade cannolis and the most delicious fresh soups. They also have a small but excellent selection of Italian wines, dried pasta and I also have found some amazing Amaretto biscuits, Lazzaroni Amaretti in light multi coloured wrappers you used to get in San Lorenzo in Knightsbridge. The waiters would roll up the wrappers, light them and watch them fly to the ceiling before evaporating into dust. I haven’t seen them anywhere for years.

It’s a smorgasbord of gorgeousness, loads of things to look at you’ve never seen (or tasted before) and they have a counter by the window allowing for people watching while you enjoy your Macciato, the coffee is pretty delicious too, freshly ground and piping hot.

I used to go a lot, two or three times a week until one day this guy arrived (he’s not there alol the time) and completely put me off. I am assuming he’s the boss except it’s not so good when you can cut the tension with a knife and all the gorgeous staff are on edge and clam up, it’s a bit awkward for the customers and puts me off going in which is actually a shame because aside from this it is a lovely lovely place offering things you simply cannot get anywhere else.
