Just had a great experience at the kilo wine bar in Quorn Leicestershire which opened in November 2023 and offers a wine and cheese Tapas like experience.
The venue is modern and has obviously undergone a complete refurbishment. We went on a Saturday in the middle of the day and we did get a table without a reservation but it was quite busy.
The menu is kind of nibbles and Light bites the lunch menu is sandwiches, cheeseboard, vegetarian board, various versions of eggs Benedict with hollandaise eggs Royale with hollandaise, arancini balls various flavour Combinations. Exciting for us there were three salads on the menu an avocado rocket salad, a beetroot and sweet potato salad and an avocado and bacon salad for meat eaters.
The wine list was extensive and the owner who served us was certainly knowledgeable about wine. We tried to order a Malbec by the glass which he said he didn’t have and substituted for something else. I don’t know the name of but apparently was absolutely blooming delicious. I got to try a gin. I’ve never heard of Everleaf Mountain and that was really good too.
Our only issue was the service was a bit slow, but we did over hear an apology at another table about that so we imagine as everything else was so good. This was just one of those days and we will definitely be going back.
The space is small, intimate and cozy so more of a nighttime after work vibe than lunch. We were seated in the wine library next to the bar where the tables are cocktail tables and the stools are high.
This is definitely a wine bar. The selection of wine is extensive and the list prices range from a very reasonable £25 for a bottle up to over £200 a bottle depending on what you order.
Don’t go in there and try an order a cosmopolitan or martini. They don’t mix cocktails.
