For Americans this is a brand we all grew up with. For 80 years Krispy Kreme have been making doughnuts. It’s a company as recognizable as Aunt Jemima, founded by Vernon Rudolph in 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He opened the first store in the historic Old Salem area and by the end of the 1950s Krispy Kreme had grown to 29 stores and spread to 12 states. It took another 40 years to get California and two more decades 2018 for a Krispy Kreme shop to open within the San Francisco city limits where I grew up.
There’s nothing better than a Krispy Kreme doughnut, and in the UK if you are plant based you may be surprised to know you can enjoy them completely guilt free. They are vegan.
Also you are not going to ruin your work out or disciplined fitness routine because your average Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut or doughnut with Jam is actually only 195 calories, the chocolate coated ones a little more but not major, way less sugar and fat than your average snickers or mars bar.
One of the highlights for me moving to UK was the recipe change to plant based Krispy Kremes. I buy the box of three for £8.30 and often pick up the bigger box of 12 to say thank you or take to a party. People who have never tied one are actually blown away by how good they actually are.
If you’ve never indulged, give Krispy Kreme a go. They also make a great plant based alternative to cake for a birthday party for kids of any age.
I absolutely LOVE this brand for making their products so inclusive and for non vegans I challenge you to do the taste test.
I bet they’ll be a few people reading this who enjoy a Krispy Kreme themselves and will say, “really no way”
Who knows maybe the US will follow the UK’s lead and make all Krispy Kreme’s plant based.
The reason I am writing this I want more people to support this company for making an outstanding product without animal cruelty.
Kudos to you, Krispy Kreme UK.
