translates from German as 100% best potatoes, no kidding

There appears to a mystery globally about these Lays chips. Just to clarify Lays is the brand of chips marketed by Pepsi Co in the US and around the world, in the UK PepsiCo market chips or crisps under the brand name walkers. Do they taste the same. I’d say not remotely and the flavour remembered by fans around the world as Sour Cream and Chives me included there seems to be a question mark about whether this flavour ever existed at all. We must all be going mad because as I recall it was my favourite flavour chips for more than a decade.

Whether it’s sour cream and chives or sour cream and onion I’d love some comments here from snoopers in the US to affirm I am not completely losing my marbles.

All this aside I just found a German version of American brands Lays potato chips owned by PepsiCo in a UK supermarket. Morrisons, not somewhere I ordinarily shop but I was absolutely delighted to find these for £1.99 sitting on the shelf, make change aside I immediately purchased. It was like being reunited with a long lost friend.

I don’t know where they came from as they were clearly meant for a German consumer, 100% besten Kartoffeln translates to 100% best potatoes.

Lays sour cream and Chive potato chips were always in my Ralph’s shopping cart when I lived in the South Bay in Southern California so this sour cream and onion German version were a treat to behold in a UK supermarket.

Not sure how they ended up here or if I’ll ever be able to find them again but if you spot them don’t be put off by the German labelling. They taste identical to the chips available in the US. And for Americans living in the UK get yourself to Morrisons for a taste of home.

While stocks last.
