For every small business finding creative ways to professionally present their products affordably is a challenge and creating engaging content, videos and images takes up loads of time.
I really prefer authentic, but model shoots are really expensive, can run into thousands for professional photographers and videographers so most businesses have to figure out ways to DIY. There are literally loads of image editing apps out there, and most you only get very basic features in a free trial so it’s hard to tell if one is for you without at least paying for a month’s subscription.
We’ve tried a few before settling on Pixelcut and shelling out the £70 for a years subscription.
What we use it for.
Mainly the easy cut out tools to present images cleanly online. It’s easy to batch process product images, even if your photography isn’t that great, the tool makes it easy to get them all lined up the same and add consistent backgrounds. We use F5F5F5 which is a pale grey, which presents better than stark white.
It’s all been a learning process to build a successful E Commerce business.
In the last couple of years Pixelcut have added additional still image generating features.
You can easily place flat images on a model or improve backgrounds to look more like a professional shoot. For me they don’t always work out, like the image below where you can see the T shirt label on the neck of the model, and you can tell they are AI generated but hey if you need volume content quickly for social media Pixelcut will quickly make a flat image come to life and the content is easy to drop back into photos for posting and sharing.
We spent £60 for one month using Grok and although the tool is much more powerful, it will generate AI video from a still shot, it is stored in your Grok library which is much easier to manage from a desk top or laptop than a mobile device like a phone or tablet which makes getting the created content onto your phone and ready to post a bit cumbersome. And the files are massive 4-10 MB so if you haven’t got much storage you can’t keep what you’ve made, it takes up too much space.
If you are looking for a tool that can cleanly cut out images, isn’t going to cause you problems with modified AI images when posting and is pretty nifty at putting flat layout clothes on models, Pixelcut is the best, easiest to master and least expensive solution I’ve found.
The AI features do work on a credit system and you only get a certain amount of credits with the basic subscription. Why we decided to pay a bit more.
The pro version gives you unlimited use of the AI features but that is more the £70 a year.
Depending how many AI generated images you want to produce depends on which is best for you.
Be aware for every AI you generate you use credits with Pixelcut, so unless you are on an unlimited more expensive plan you do end up using credits for images you cannot use.
