My Mum and My Dad both drank there and I have enjoyed many a late night out without having to drive home! It was always a bit dingy and full of old men propping up the bar, the food was never good either. Recently it has had an amazing transformation, facelift and upgrade by the new owners and it is now really quite a nice place to eat, something it was not before. The charming and historic Axe & Square, a beacon of hospitality nestled in the heart of Countesthorpe, Leicester! This timeless gem has been a gathering place for locals and travellers alike for over a century, its warm embrace offering a delightful respite from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. The rich smell of seasonal ales mingles with the tantalizing aroma of the day's freshly prepared specials, wafting from the kitchen like a siren's call to the hungry and thirsty. The interior, a blend of past old-world charm and contemporary flair, boasts a gleaming bar top, where you'll find an impressive selection of wines, spirits, and, of course, beers and ales. The new winter menu looks tasty, offering healthy Sunday roasts, delicious desserts, and midweek lunch specials. Children can eat from the Young Diners menu and are welcome. The food for me is always tasty, fresh, and reasonably priced.Despite some unfavourable reviews for some of its dishes, the Axe & Square restaurant is well-known for its delicious food, which I found to be well prepared and provided in substantial portions. The restaurant is praised for serving high-quality, reasonably priced meals and I agree with this. The Sunday lunch is good and often it is hard to get a table unless you book. The staff provide a valuable experience, emphasising the attentive and friendly service. In addition, the restaurant's pleasant décor and clean, cosy ambiance add to its welcoming and friendly attitude.I am very happy to have a local pub close by to the village I live in now that serves good food and always with a welcoming smile.
