It stars Meryl Streep as a successful bakery owner and single mother of three who starts a secret affair with her ex-husband, played by Alec Baldwin, ten years after their divorce – only to find herself drawn to another man: her architect Adam (portrayed by Steve Martin). An ensemble film, the R-rated adult comedy also features supporting performances by Lake Bell, Hunter Parrish, Zoe Kazan, John Krasinski, Mary Kay Place, and Rita Wilson, among others.TOP TEN MAYBEOMG if you haven’t seen this movie, written, directed and produced by Nancy Meyer, only a script this good would be written by a women, rent it immediately. This is a classic. A laugh out loud movie and I mean laugh out loud, not in a Hangover, stupid kinda way (not that I didn’t rate it, I did) but in a totally, clever knowing way.The chemistry between Jane (Meryl Streep); who looks beautiful btw, probably because she is always laughing and Jake (Alec Bauldwin) who I don’t usually rate as an actor but he is brilliant in this, is smokin hot, comedic genius.Steve Martin who rocks in pretty much everything he’s ever done adds some killer visual comedy particularly in one scene where the oldies head off to a party hosted by Jane’s grown up kids and smoke a massive joint on the way.The acting is suspiciously authentic, that’s all I’m saying. The premise of the story, Jane and Jake were married for twenty years before he had a midlife crisis and ran off with a much younger woman. The story picks up 10 years into the divorce, things aren’t going great for him and his toned, hard body wife Agnes has him at the fertility clinic demanding an off spring whilst Jane has finally got her shit, ie home and career totally together. After a drunken fumble night at their son’s graduation, that Agnes is unable to attend, they begin an affair, him hot and horny for what he once desired, her reluctantly with sweet revenge in the back of her mind.I don’t say this about many films and I do watch a lot, across genre. This one makes it onto my top 25 list and potentially my top 10 for sure. Five stars all the way. Fabulous class acting, incredible script set over- looking the Pacific coast. What could be more perfect? You can watch it over and over.
