A Little Chaos

Little known gem directed by Alan Rickman

I watch quite a lot of movies and not necessarily the latest ones. I like magnificent visuals, luscious countryside, opulent decor, elaborate period costumes and clever writing and A Little Chaos delivers all of these elements in a fast paced empowering story of real life lady gardener to king Sabine De Barra in 18th century France where women knew their place and must be careful who they challenge at court.

The film documents the real life hiring and firing as the gardens at Versailles are envisioned by the King played by Rickman (the date is 1764) and the Master gardener, breaks with tradition and order by hiring a woman - hence the title.

The film is beautiful, and fast paced, I like a film that carries you through to the end quickly and that leaves you with warm feelings reflecting at the end.

Is it a chick flick. I’d say more female skewed than male with some steamy scenes between Winslet and Schoenberg’s characters. But the dynamic and relationship between Winset and Rickman as the King is also intriguing and makes this film while light a woven and multi dimensional plot you can definitely enjoy more than once.
