Hagen Coffee and a Danish in Mayfair

You’d never know it’s there really. Easy to miss except those of us that know selfishly like to keep it that way. Hagen Expresso Bars are actually a chain though you’d never know it, relaxed friendly understated and NOT snooty at all and not overly expensive either.

They have 2 locations in the City, Leadenhall Market where I first discovered the coffee and Borough Yard, stoney st, near London Bridge both worth a visit but for me bigger, more modern decor and don't hold the charm of the Brook St location. In the west end there's on in Knightsbridge, Marylebone, Chelsea, South Kensington, Mayfair and Belgravia, and the one I like on Brook st, although it’s the Mayfair spot, located at 6 Brook St with an outdoor bar and stools outside you’d never know it. You could be anywhere in the world.

I cannot resist the coffee and the hole in the wall no one bothering you experience when I am ever around Berkeley Square. I make a special trip. It's somewhere I love to go along for a 20 minute pick me up. I know there's loads of competition and millions would probably disagree but for me it's the best coffee in Mayfair by a clear mile. The place, you've got to go. You cannot describe it, the thang in a review. you have to experience it for yourself and when you get there you'll know what I am talking about. It's a feeling.

Maybe it’s the Viking heritage silent yet deadly in this particular one always captivating aromas, it’s the very first thing that hits you, the smell, distinctive and inviting immediately catapulting you to the street side Tabacs of rural France where men sit quietly reading, smoking, sipping expresso from tiny handled cups.

They don’t bother you, they don’t have a loyalty program 10 stamps and a free one, nothing like that.

It’s the kind of place where no one has to say anything, everyone just knows and whilst we want Hagen to thrive and grow we also want to keep this special place very special.

Once you taste the coffee coffee lovers they’ll be no going back to Starbucks.
