There are a few places to get coffee in St John’s Wood. I’ve been sampling them all after my favourite local spot Laurents Deli on the High Street sadly closed.
There are the usual suspects the big Starbucks on the corner of the High St and St John’s Wood Terrace, Pret A Manger opposite where you can save a bit as a regular using their app, and Gail’s Bakery serves barista style coffee too, a big more expensive but this would be my favourite of the three for flavour if you are looking for a name brand you know.
That said we’ve got a relatively new spot for coffee a lot of people miss, opened in early 2025 when I ask my friends if they’ve been no one seems to have heard about them.
The Hagen Expresso Bar in Mayfair, Brook Street I’ve been to once before so when I spotted this new addition in the neighbourhood we were pretty stoked. It’s the best place for me to grab my daily fix. It’s good that sit and chill a while energy I love, and even though it’s a bigger business with a few locations it feels independent and personal. Every location has its own character, reflecting the neighbourhood it calls home and the staff are relaxed and quick which is great whether you have time to hang out or need your coffee to go.
The aroma as you pass this place tucked in between a hair dressers and an estate agent on St John’s Wood Terrace at the top of the High St will draw you in. It’s got those European cafe tabac feels where cigarette smoke swirls (outside) and the superior blends and sustainably sourced and roasted beans are savoured in whichever form, expresso, americano, latte, flat white floats your boat.
I love this place for my daily fix. £3.00 - £3.50 for a single shot.
