My sister is a bit of a Rick Stein fanatic so we’ve spent a bit of time in Cornwall, in Padstow where the Tarquins Gin shop and tasting Center is located and where we had our first experience of the Tarquin tipples.
There is even a potent special gin, crafted by Charlie Stein for Tarquins, a bottle bearing the stein name.
This limited edition gin by Charlie costs £45 and is distilled by hand in small batches using copper pot stills called Senara, Ferrara, Tamara and Senara.
The one I like, comes in at £25 and for the drivers, the health conscious, or for people who a buzz is more of a buzz kill all the flavour and refreshing zing of a Gin and Tonic without any of the depression mothers ruin can bring on.
This small batch distillery may not be in your radar just yet but like Warners of Northampton and Three Bees of Market Harborough custom gins are on the up and up and yet finding the best zero percent one can be challenging.
I’ve tried a few, of the main stream brands I don’t rate Gordon’s, Tanqueray zero is palatable and less expensive than Tarquins for me Tarquins is by far the best.
I’ve bought a bottle of Italian Spritz from Lyle’s the non alcoholic cocktail specialists. When the ice maker broke at home; instead of getting it fixed I ended up taking the bottle £24.99 to my local and after words with the landlords Mrs; I ended up leaving the bottle of Lyle’s Italian Spritz there. Tasted a bit like Campari if you like it and want 0% or 0.5% abv.
